KIM: Spill. I know something's up because I haven't seen that look on your face in like seven years. KELLY: To be fair, you didn't even see me at all for five of those. KIM: Well okay but that just makes it more obvious. KELLY: [Sigh.] Well... actually... so. There's good news and there's bad news. You have to promise not to be pissed at me for the bad news. KIM: [Pause.] Let's start with the good news. KELLY: No way, you didn't fucking promise! KIM: Fiiiine. I promise. KELLY: Okay. Um... fuck, so, I don't know how to say this that doesn't make me sound like an 8th grade girl. KIM: [Chuckle.] Just say it. Or I'll have to start guessing and you won't like that. KELLY: Fine. [Blushing.] He kissed me. Valya, I mean. Fucking obviously. God, kill me, I am actually fucking 13. KIM: Ha! About fucking time! So...? KELLY: So...? KIM: So how was it? What happened? [Pause.] Where did he kiss you? KELLY: Oh. Jesus, that's a lot of fucking questions. Um, he kissed me... on the mouth? I mean, where the fuck do people kiss you? KIM: Well, Wilford kissed me on— KELLY: STOP, I don't actually want to know! God, Kimmy. KIM: [Laughs.] Oh my god, Kelly, we're adults. But fine. I mean, this is about you and Valya anyway. So tell me the whole story. KELLY: It's not really a story, it's just... so, well, we were talking about Sadie. KIM: And? KELLY: And... he was upset about how she's been acting. You know. KIM: So you comforted him with your lips? KELLY: Ugh, no. I'm trying to tell you the bad news now. Well, It's not really bad, I mean, it's fine... KIM: Ooookay? KELLY: God, you really suck at the sister intuition thing sometimes, fuck. I needed a way to make him understand the thing... about Sadie. And look, Kimmy, I trust him. Seriously, I really fucking do. KIM: [Long pause.] I see. KELLY: ...you promised not to be pissed. KIM: So you really, really trust him? KELLY: [Pause.] Yeah. I really do. KIM: Fine. [Click of the tongue.] Did you explain why this is so important to me? KELLY: We didn't actually spend that much time... talking. [Quickly.] But he gets it, seriously, he does. [Beat.] And I mean, Hunter fucking MacKenna knows. Val's way more trustworthy than him. KIM: Hah, good. About the not talking much. But yeah, you're probably right. I mean Hu— [Abrupt stop.] I mean you know this means I'm going to have to threaten Valya, right? KELLY: [Rolling her eyes.] In defense of my honor? KIM: Absolutely. Too bad we're not in Iowa though. Reminding them that Dad's got a gun was always fun... KELLY: Yeah. You made for a really scary fourteen year-old. |
