"I wish I had some vodka." Nothing. "I wish I had a block of Cadbury milk chocolate." Nothing. "I wish I had a Magnum." Still, nothing. Libby Ross frowned as she watched the rest of her teammates using their powers. They were so much more in control than she was, and it wasn't fair. Sure, they were older, some of them had been here longer, they'd practiced more often or their power didn't seem to require as much energy as hers did. But all it took was someone to utter the words 'I wish...' and she was done for. There was very little she could do about it other than misinterpret what they wanted. And that's only if the wish was reasonable enough to grant, because if it wasn't, she merely fell asleep. She didn't know anyone else who's powers forced them to fall asleep if it all became too much (and Neve didn't count). "I wish Juli wasn't in solitary," she began flatly, and sighed as she failed to generate that surge of energy, the tell-tale sign that her power had been activated. It wasn't fair that she had to be so dependant on other people just to use her own damn power! It wasn't fair that all of her closest IVI friends were stuck in solitary. It wasn't fair that this was out of her control, their control, anyone's control except for the people who kept them locked inside the force field. For her safety? Because watching her friends being tased didn't make her feel awfully safe. "I wish I had a roller coaster," she spat out angrily, knowing full well that even if she could grant her own wishes, this one would be too big for her to fulfill either way. "I wish Santa Claus was real!" she shouted, not caring if her teammates turned heads to glance in her direction. "I wish I was a millionaire! I wish Hogwarts was real! I wish I could fucking grant my own wishes!" Nothing, nothing, nothing. "I wish I was older. No, younger. I wish I had a television in the warehouse. I wish I had a packet of chips. I wish I had a blanket fort. I wish I could go ho-- on a hot air balloon right now. I wish I had blue hair. I wish I was taller. I wish I was a pirate. I wish I had a parrot. Or a lion. Or," she paused. "A dragon." It was such an absurd list of wishes that even her failure to fulfill them stopped bothering her. In some strange way, it helped. At least she wasn't putting herself to sleep? Small mercies. |
