The video begins with an empty black screen, as Stabat Mater by Woodkid begins to play. White text appears on the screen, frame by frame. ALL OF US STAND WITH OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF THE VR VOLS WILL NOT REMAIN IMPRISONED FOREVER WE ARE NOT YOUR SLAVES WE ARE RISING The lyrics of the song begin -- in the glorious days, til we lost our way, hey, do you recall when the war was just a game? -- and a young girl appears on the screen. She is standing in front of a large brick wall. The girl looks very young, maybe even so young as fourteen, with long blonde hair that has been folded into a loose braid over her shoulder. Throughout the braid, someone has threaded chamomile flowers, although they appear to have been dyed red. A visible glow emanates from her entire body. She holds a white piece of cardstock, upon which the following words have been written in block lettering, a Russian translation written below the English and Russian: The song continues. now the wind ventures to other plains, hey, when will I see you again if I go? this train whistles and blows all sounds away, hey, how could we be close again? She drops the card and another appears, and then another. With each card, another student walks into the frame and takes a place behind her. Their expressions are empty, a kind of grim determination apparent in the way that they hold themselves. The cards read... SHAMED BEATEN STUNNED SHOT KILLED. THE WORLD WATCHES THESE CRIMES THESE MURDERS AND DOES NOTHING. YOU TURN YOUR EYES AWAY SO THAT YOU DO NOT SEE OUR SUFFERING AND THIS MAKES YOU JUST AS GUILTY AS THOSE WHO GUARD OUR BEDROOM DOORS HISTORY WILL REMEMBER. WE REMEMBER. IF YOU ARE A VOL, PLEASE STAND WITH US. TOGETHER, WE ARE STRONGER THAN THOSE WHO WOULD KEEP US LOCKED BEHIND WALLS. WE ARE ALL VOLS RISING. now the night is bathing in disgrace, hey, do you still braid some flowers in your hair? come the sound of boots and metal chains, hey, will the perfume of the daisies remain? When the girl drops the final card, there are roughly 20 other people behind her, all staring intently at the camera. Some of them are visibly utilizing their powers; a flame flickers blue in one boy's palm, a girl's skin changes colors from red to purple to blue to green. All of their faces are clearly visible. The camera rises into the air and their eyes follow it up, although it is unclear as to whether it is being held by someone who is rising into the air, or if someone is lifting it by other means. a circus of horses is dancing in the bay, hey, now the fire's in the way, the past is sucked by quicksands I'm afraid, hey, do you recall when the war was just a game? The video fades to black. |
