Who: Seamus and Astoria
What: Bumping into each other accidentally.
Where: Diagon Alley
When: Saturday June 18th
Rating: PG-13 for swearing

Seamus sat on a bench just outside Sugarplum’s Sweet Shop, scratching the words still bugging very deliberately into his journal. He couldn’t remember the last time someone had managed to piss him off quite so thoroughly. He hardly even knew this girl but she was under his skin, drawing out the worst side of him.

He closed his journal tightly and vowed not to open it again. Astoria would undoubtedly reply within seconds, leaving another maddening remark that really, really wasn’t worth replying to. No. Not worth it at all.

“Damn it,” he breathed and opened the journal again, only to feel his fist clench as he read her words. “Fine. If the last words are so important to you, have them,” he said, tossing his quill at the journal.

The sun was shining, the skies were blue, and best of wall, the weather was great. Out and a about in Diagon Alley, Astoria had stopped in at a place that sold some of the best ice cream she'd ever had. The strawberries burst with flavor upon her tongue, danced across her senses in a near euphoric manner. Had she not known better she would have thought the stuff was drugged in order to hook a person and make them crave it more.

As she sat and enjoyed the bowl that sat before her, Astoria opened her journal to find amusement in a written spar of words with a pathetic drunk. By the end, she assumed he'd be at a loss of words, repeating the words "still bugging" over and over. When there were no new comments, she'd chuckled to herself, finished her treat and left.

As she stepped out into the Alley again she happened to notice a certain person milling about, a sour disposition about him. Oh, this was too good. So bloody perfect! Crossing the Alley was easy considering it was a weekend and most people flocked to the shops. She stopped beside the bench, her shadow sliding over the form before her.

"Must be Fate... She must be demanding an apology from you as well."

Seamus looked up from his journal and blinked. The bright sun was behind her and it took his eyes a moment to adjust.

“Fucking fuck,” he said before he thought better. Astoria looked far too pleased to see him and, he had to admit, she also looked very pretty, but that only fuelled his anger.

“Right. I’m leaving,” he said and stood quickly, happy to at least be towering 7 inches over her. “I already told you exactly how much of an apology you were going to get.”

"Watch you words." She said, her hands on her hips. He might have towered over her as he stood, but she was not one to back down when she felt she had been wronged.

"Funny thing about being in the Alley, unless you plan on popping away through apparition, I can follow you where ever you go. And, I can be even more of a nag in person, what you saw through the journals were absolutely nothing."

Seamus’ eyes narrowed. “Why did you even comment on my journal in the first place? If you found it so horrible and offensive you should have just ignored it,” he said through gritted teeth.

A middle-aged couple walked by and glanced over at them, the woman’s expression slightly worried. Seamus took a step back from Astoria and put his hands in his pockets. “You insulted me, not the other way around.”

"Its hard to ignore such a thing when its plastered across the first page of my journal!" She said defensively.

Astoria's gaze drifted from the arse in front of her to the woman who longed to butt in where her opinions were not wanted. Flashing the elder a warm yet apologetic smile she shrugged her shoulders, hoping she'd move on her way. When the couple moved on, the smile melted from her features and she turned her attention back to the man before her.

"I hardly insulted you. I simply stated that it was a vulgar entry. After that, you called me a prude and an even trashy word that I am far too much of a lady to say."

Seamus scoffed. "You're not a lady," he said under his breath.

"Can we at least go somewhere private if you really insist on talking about this?" he asked.

"Excuse me?" She asked, pretty sure he'd just insulted her.

When he suggested the go elsewhere, she looked around, saw a couple of people and stood up to her fullest height. Intent on making him feel like a heel, she raised her voice. "I am not going somewhere private with you! Just who do you think I am?!"

Seamus felt his cheeks flush. Who the hell did this girl think she was? He couldn’t remember the last time he felt this uncomfortable.

“You’re impossible,” he said, his jaw clenched. “I’m not apologizing for no reason. I was drunk. It was a stupid entry. Yeah. But you’re the one who started throwing insults and making assumptions about who I sleep with, as if that’s any of your fucking business anyways,” he said pointedly.

“Now if you’re actually looking for some sort of resolution, then let’s find somewhere to talk. If you’re just looking to be a gigantic pain in my arse, then I’ll be leaving.”

"I know I'm impossible. I'm impossibly cute as well. And you will apologize to me. In one way or another, I will get an apology from you." Her tone was one that dripped with syrupy sweetness as she glared daggers at him.

A bit deflated over her attempt to cause a scene had failed, Astoria adjusted the strap on her bag and straightened the light summer dress she wore. "Now, let's get one thing clear... I will follow you to whatever private place you have in mind. However, there will be nothing, and I mean nothing going on. Whatever perverted thoughts you may have, wipe them from your mind. I am a lady, I deserve respect, and I will not be caught in any sort of situation that would otherwise shame myself or my family. Do you understand me?"

Seamus almost laughed. “Okay, little lady. I promise not to bring any dishonour to your family,” he said, hand raised in a gesture of faith. He was just glad she’d agreed. If one more person gave him an accusing sideways glance he might actually hit someone.

“This way,” he said, leading her down the path toward The Leaky Cauldron. “Now, are you intent on hating me regardless of how this conversation goes?” he asked.

The way he laughed, grated her nerves. He was laughing at her! "Very well, lead the way." Dismissing him with a wave of her hand, she allowed him to take the lead since she had no idea where he was taking her.

"Let's just get this straight, I have everyone. Mudbloods get the worst of it, blood traitors come next, and then half-breeds. It might not sit well with you but its just the way it is. However, should a half-breed earn my respect, there is less hate for them." After all, there had been a handful of half-bloods around Hogwarts she could stand, a couple of those had even been among those who frequented the Slytherin House.

Seamus stopped mid stride and turned toward her, his eyes lit with anger. "Don't use that word around me. Don't say it. Don't think it," he said coldly. Mudblood was not a word that sat well with him.

"I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt. There is, after all, something to be said for tolerance. Do you even understand that word?" he asked. He no longer cared that they were standing in the middle of the street. No. The need for privacy was gone. It had only been a few years since the second war and the scars of the final battle had barely begun to fade.

Astoria's lips curled into a rueful smirk as she saw the anger in his eyes. "What's a matter? You're not one are you? I mean if you're not, you have nothing to worry about. If you are, I'm sorry I'll hate you just because. It's a sad lot, I know."

"I'm following you aren't I? I am doing my best to give you the benefit of the doubt and maybe put a little trust in you. Or as you say, tolerance. I say I'm being quite tolerant of the company." She was good at pushing buttons. It usually got her what she wanted, yet this time she had a feeling she'd gone too far. Unfortunately her mouth and her brain were not on terms that'd allow them to work together. "Now, are we going to continue to our destination, or are we going to have this argument here in the middle of a crowded alleyway?"

Seamus turned his back to her as the slow burn of his anger lit and his fist clench around the wand tucked into the waistband of his jeans. It surprised him every time – how someone could truly believe that another's bloodlines had anything to do with whether or not they should be treated as a person. Naive and selfish, he thought of her. Naive, selfish, and fucking disgusting.

Slowly he exhaled and spoke. “Listen to me very carefully,” he said without turning to look at her. “I need you to leave. Now.”

A brow raised in question to his words. She knew she tread on this ice with this one. She saw it in the actions and word spoken since she spoke that one word. That word had become taboo among those who thought like her parents and were raised by parents like hers.

"Or what? What are you going to do to me in the middle of a crowded area?"

Seamus turned and studied her silently. Was she scared? He couldn’t tell, but he knew she was aware of how angry he was, how happy he’d be punish her for even thinking half of what she’d said aloud.

“I’m not going to do anything,” he said, and then apparated.
