Henry walked through the darkness toward the stables. “It is not so much as a great distance away as much as it is far easier to avoid unnecessary conflict with brigands and others of similar type when on horseback.” Through town, into the forest, over the stream and up a grassy hill. It was quieter there and darker. No torches from people or homes cluttered the darkness.
“But yes,” he said and gave her a slightly more genuine smile, “we will need a horse. Unless you prefer to ride alone.” He shrugged, “I wasn't certain if you had been doing so or not.” It wasn't something that particularly mattered in either instance, honestly. It was not like they had a shortage of horses for palace use.
