He seemed more cheerful, she noted. Maybe he felt better after telling her the truth. It was good to be honest, though she didn't really feel better after her outburst. She just felt more foolish, because really, what right did she have to say such things? But if Henry was happier, then she'd be happy to. Or try to.
She carefully picked up the lamp, then debated for a moment. If she grabbed the blanket, it would be quite an armful. How would she take the bowl with her to catch the gems if she had no hands to carry it? Then again, the bowl was quite full. And there was little room left in the basket. Even her apron was full. She'd done quite a lot of talking tonight.
Then she decided that she'd simply make sure to speak in such a way that any new gems would fall on the blanket. They could gather them up and take them home in some way, though she wasn't certain how yet, but at least she wouldn't waste them. Since that was why she was here at all. She'd just have to make sure she did an extra good job at it.
Scooping up the blanket, she waited for Henry in the doorway. Opal knew that he'd gathered some things, but she hadn't seen what. As he drew into the soft light from the lamp, she could see his pleased face, and for some reason she could not resist teasing him just a bit. "I don't think you would have caught me sneaking out if you hadn't been sneaking out yourself, Henry."
His name came easier now, and she gave him a bright smile. Maybe, if she was very lucky, he'd take her hand again.
