Gin had been just about to take a bite of his newly acquired apple when he heard a voice come from beside him. If that hadn't been enough, when he turned his head and shifted his eyes, they landed on a woman beside him. A woman. Beside him.
Gin jumped and very nearly dropped his apple if not for a scrambling of his hands to keep from losing it. Then he paused, looked at the woman and blinked a few times. She was talking to him? Why was she talking to him? Had she seen him steal the apple? No. She couldn't have. He was ace at stealing, to the point that no one ever noticed him do it anymore. So it couldn't have been the apple.
Maybe she was just being sociable. Yeah. That was it. Sociable. Gin should respond to her.
He meant to say something of substance. Something that would be cool and collected and not give any indication that he'd done anything wrong. Except what actually passed his lips sounded uneasy and nervous, complete with stuttering and obvious uncertainty. "I... um... hi... um... um... I uh, um... Hello."
