The man had thought he was one of his servants. So that probably meant that the more shiny bits of metal that one wore the higher their rank in the pack. Servants, the wolf had learned were the omega and even gamma wolves of the human world. He wasn’t sure what a prince was or where it stood, but it was probably close to beta.
“I am Bartleby Wolfe,” he introduced himself, copying the prince’s bow. “Not a prince and seeker of …” What was he seeking anyway? “Seeker of knowledge.”
That sounded reasonable enough and it actually was the truth. Bartleby was staying in his current human form so he could learn more about this strange species. He was still trying to learn how to interact with them without giving away his true nature. He supposed now, he would have to start talking to trees.
Bartleby’s nose twitched unconsciously as the scent of a frog hit him again. He wasn’t interested in finding the frog for a meal; they made for a poor dinner unless you could catch a dozen or more of them. He just hated not knowing where a scent was coming from. One never knew which creatures were bearing axes or knives. Unfortunately, he couldn’t just ask the human prince if he had seen a frog. He might ask how Bartleby even knew there was an amphibian in their midst. He was just going to have to try to ignore it. For now anyway.
“Solitude.” Bartleby repeated the goal of Robin’s quest. “I can understand the need to get away by yourself, but wouldn’t you miss the warmth of your pac..people?”
