Opal waited patiently as the girl read. She wanted to help, she truly did, because it was one of the very few things that she had some confidence in. Oh, not with the very large words, like in some of Henry's books. She was still looking those up in the extremely large dictionary in the castle library. But for the most part, she thought she did quite well and wasn't too slow. And it was a wonderful thing, to be able to look in those books and see things and think about them. Someday, maybe, she'd even get to discuss some of them with Henry.
When Rowan finished, Opal nodded as the reply that was given, then set her pencil to paper again. Carefully, though not quite as slowly, she wrote, "You're doing good." Then she crossed out "good," and wrote "really well," underlining the "well" twice. Then she added an exclamation point. After that, she wrote, "Learning is important. I have to learn to dance too."
Turning the paper so the other girl could read it, Opal nodded encouragingly. She tried to use shorter sentences, hoping that would be easier for Rowan.
