Rowan smiled, but she had to focus a bit on the words that were written. She wasn't a very proficient reader and it was going to take time for her go through the words.
Slowly, and only with a touch of shame since the other girl was learning to communicate in the other way, she sounded out each word slowly. Once she finished the slow read, Rowan repeated it again more confidently and then smiled brighter. She was quite proud of herself. “I'm still learning to read.”
She folded her hands together happily. “I just moved here to stay with my Aunt. She's insisted that I learn. She's being very kind to take me in, so I am going to try very hard to do well at it.”
