Opal nodded enthusiastically when the other girl figured out her name, swiftly tucking the gem away in her bodice. She wished that she could produce a ruby for Rowan, since she'd been called Red, but other than her own name, it was never guaranteed what sort of gem would come out of her mouth. If she got a gem at all. And it would require speaking again which could be problematic.
But before she could be too sad about that, Rowan went on to tell her things that had Opal incredibly excited. There was so much she wanted to ask! But she couldn't!. Oh this was wonderful and terrible at the same time!
Oh!
The book!
Opal swiftly grabbed a pear and pressed it into Rowan's hands. Then, because she was so excited, she gave her two more before moving all the papers with dance steps on them to find the book again. When she managed to pull it out, she turned to the other girl with a bright, hopeful smile and held it up so she could see that she was learning how to talk with her hands, just like the boy she mentioned.
Was it the same kind of talking? With burgeoning hope, Opal slowly spelled out, "Hello. Pleased to meet you."
