After the handkerchief had been handed over, Steve did what seemed the most sensible thing -- he backed off a chair length to give Jean and Jubilee room to help Charles.
He seemed to pick up on the unspoken hint to keep going, because he picked up the thread of conversation when Jean dropped it. Sure, he kept sneaking glances at Charles, but he was determined not to stare. If the self-professed practicing physician thought he'd be fine, well. Charles would be fine.
"Westchester County? That's reassuring, at least. I'm sure the cars will work if the batteries can be replaced; it's really just a matter of keeping our eyes open on the next supply mission. There doesn't seem to be a lot of time for supply-gathering on regular missions; so far, they seem to operate under a tight timetable and a battery's a heavy thing to carry along when you're busy trying to complete whatever task you've been sent out to do."
