Jean glanced sideways at Jubilee, but opted not to say anything. Back home, she wouldn't have hesitated, but here, the Deputy Headmistress was too new. (Maybe it would be former Deputy Headmistress now? She tried not to wince.) These people didn't know her, didn't respect her, and might not take kindly to having their thoughts commented on, even if Jean did use her best discretion at all times.
Still contemplating her predicament, Jean chose the closest thing to her favourite wingback armchair in the study back home. Even without her Charles sitting across from her with the chess set they'd played on since she was twelve between them, it was comforting. She crossed her legs at the ankle, propped one elbow on the armrest and her chin in her palm, and settled in to listen.
