The word was spoken softly, but firmly. Even if he was kicking himself for being stupid enough to think that Jim could ever commit to anyone, he didn't want Nyota to do anything. She had the uncanny ability to set the captain on edge, and Jim didn't need that kind of stress right now. He gestured vaguely in the direction of his computer, in tacit approval for her to read what had been said.
"I didn't clarify things well enough," he said. "Jim doesn't do relationships, so I should have made sure he knew where I stood on things. I can't do casual...and it's all Jim knows. Maybe I'm a goddamn idiot for even trying."
At the light touch, he just seemed to collapse in on himself. Men didn't cry, so of course he wasn't, but he was overwhelmed by the weight of his own emotions. So much had happened lately, and being able to rely on someone else, even for just a moment, was something he needed more than he'd expected.
