"Oh shut up already." He'd called Jim kid since that first day on the shuttle when they'd started this unlikely friendship. He gestured too the flask "Y'know, they'd probably cite some regulation or another 'bout that, if we weren't well before Starfleet's time. But nevermind that. You're always gonna be a kid to me, Jim. Just a face of life."
Bones rolled his eyes as Jim hissed and grabbed hold of his hand, surveying the damage. "Damn, Jim," he said, "you did a number on it." He got his supplies and set about correcting the damage, cleaning and bandaging his friend's hand. "Maybe now you'll remember not to think with your fists? Oh, who am I kidding. Getting you to stop being an impulsive idiot would be like getting the hobgoblin to crack a smile."
He laughed outright at Jim's suggestion as to what to tell Joanna and shook his head. "You go ahead and do that."
