Noah was smiling broadly when he opened the door. He nodded his head at her question, already stepping out into the hallway. "He knows," he assured her, carefully closing the door behind him before peering up at her. "He said for us to have fun, and be careful, and he'll see us when we get back."
The boy gave a slight nod of his head as though to assure himself he'd relayed the message properly before once more smiling at Elle. "Will you push me on the swings when we get there?" he asked curiously as they headed out of the building. "My legs are too short an' can't reach the ground 'cept my toes."
Almost without thinking about it, he reached out and grasped her hand before they reached the exit. He almost always held his dad's hand when they were out in public. It was the best way to make sure that he didn't get lost or stolen or run over or something. At least, that's what his dad had always said. By now, it was as second nature to the boy as not talking to strangers and not touching animals he didn't know.
