WHO: Gabriel and Noah Gray
WHAT: An unexpected discovery.
WHEN: Morning-time
WHERE: Their apartment
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress
Noah knew when he woke up before the sun that he was supposed to go back to bed. He also knew that, unless it was important, he wasn't supposed to wake his dad up before the sun either. He tried hard to follow both rules as best he could, and usually managed to at least stay in his bedroom during the hour or so between when he typically rose from bed and when the sun finally broke across the horizon. It wasn't bed, of course, and he never went back to sleep, but he rarely got himself into trouble playing with things he was allowed to play with.
That wasn't the case at the moment, however.
Not that Noah was in trouble, necessarily. He certainly hadn't broken anything, and he hadn't woken up his dad. He'd simply sat on the living room floor with a few of his dad's tools scattered around him and the new robot modeling kit he'd been given resting in his lap. He was being quiet, and careful, and was so lost in what he was doing that he didn't realize the sun was up until it was finally shining through the window and warming his face.
Even as the rays beamed down on him, though, Noah didn't stop in his task. He'd woken up extra early this morning determined to build the robot and, when he'd realized he could do it on his own, he'd wasted no time in getting to work. Distantly, he knew that his dad might not be happy with him. He'd explained before that kits were for them to work on together because the pieces were small and some of the stuff were things he'd only know how to do once he started going to school.
Well, Noah wasn't sure if he'd gone to school in his sleep or if his dad was just wrong about the kits, but either way he'd had no trouble at all putting this one together so far. In fact, all he really needed now were the batteries and he'd be finished.
He was just about to put down the robot and go in search for some, too, when he heard a noise from his dad's bedroom. The screwdriver in Noah's hand went still and the little boy held his breath as he waited for the inevitable footsteps leading into the living room. Please don't be mad, please don't be mad, please don't be mad, was all he could think as he slowly peered up from the mostly-built robot in his lap to his father, the moment Gabriel passed through the door.
