Gabriel registered the calls of Dad somewhere deep in the depths of his mind, but they were almost immediately dismissed. Dad just didn't stir him like it would have if he'd actually been used to it. It wasn't until he was being shaken that he even so much as made a noise, mumbling quietly and raising a hand to rub at his face before it dropped back down limply next to the couch as his mind worked to formulate the most logical response that it could come up with to being woken up so early.
Past experience could only come up with one answer.
"Normal human beings don't get up with the dawn, Dad," Gabriel mumbled as he turned his head to bury in the pillow. "Come back when it's closer to noon."
