Remus forced himself to try and pull it together, not wanting anyone to see him like this. His hands were shaking and his head was spinning, but he grabbed hold of the arm of the sofa and tried to pull himself to his feet. He failed miserably, falling back down and leaning heavily against the piece of furniture, taking a few moments to regain his equilibrium. He knew he looked a mess, bloody and bruised and face wet from crying, but there was nothing to be done for it just then. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath to steady himself...and heard Severus speak.
He froze, paling slightly, and kept his eyes shut, hoping it was something he'd imagined. That when he opened his eyes, he'd be alone. No such luck. He looked at Severus with a wide-eyed expression of shock and panic, and for a long moment he couldn't even speak. "It..." the words were soft, barely audible. "I...he...it wasn't what it looked like."
