Who: Augustus Rookwood and OPEN What: Don't know yet! Where: Somewhere between the MoM phonebooth and the Leaky Cauldron When: 31 July 1978, 5 p.m. Status: Incomplete
Augustus' workday hadn't been particularly productive. It was the last day of his official status as an intern, and, perhaps as a joke, his supervisor had given him a series of menial tasks. True, his usual assignments weren't exactly monumental, but Augustus had felt slightly more significant collecting books on obscure subjects and observing experiments during lunch breaks than he had today. It was just impossible to ascribe the same illusion of importance when refilling inkwells.
Slightly humbled at the end of the day, Augustus visibly brightened when he stepped out of the Ministry's phonebooth. Tomorrow was his first day as an official Unspeakable. He knew that at least the first few weeks would likely be filled with his usual tasks. The latest Unspeakable had been relieved when Augustus was assigned the floor; the Department of Mysteries didn't always accept interns, and she had been the newest Unspeakable, and therefore effective grunt-worker, for the last few years. Augustus could only hope that someone from the class of '78 would be appointed.
Regardless, however, he would be getting at least a nominal portion of freedom. He'd received the number of his own office at the end of the day, although his mood had been too dampened to enjoy it. His supervisor had assured him that he'd be subject to frequent progress reports, and, of course, the errands of higher-ups would always come before his own work. Augustus wasn't thrilled about that.
He was, however, thrilled that he would not be returning to the interns' hovel that night. Brightening by a few more degrees as he realized this, Augustus set off for the Leaky Cauldron. He'd attached the flat to the Floo network yesterday.
