Who: Daisy Hookum and Emmeline Vance What: Moving in! Where: En route When: 31 July 1978, 8 a.m. Status: Incomplete
The morning was bright and sunny. The Muggles were cross and harried. Daisy was buffeted and awestruck.
Perhaps an early start hadn't been the best plan.
After a chorus of goodbyes, well wishes, and promises to write, Daisy had flooed from her home to the Leaky Cauldron. The method was one of the many recommendations made by the latest Ministry owl. With her magically-expanded (and hideous) carpet bag in tow, Daisy didn't feel quite adventurous enough to rely entirely on Muggle transportation, but simply apparating to the flat building's lobby seemed somehow like cheating. Instead, she had opted for the balanced option of walking the distance between the Leaky Cauldron and the building with the help of the magical map included in the owl.
What the owl hadn't recommended, however, was a reasonable start time. At 8 a.m., the sidewalks included quite a few Muggles intent on getting to work on time, no matter who they had to run over in the process. Daisy was normally adept at walking through crowds; a heaping serving of self-confidence and purpose usually cleared her way through the halls of Hogwarts. Her usual direct walk was hindered, however, by her frequent pauses to take in the unfamiliar sights. It really was just like the photographs pictured in her Muggle Studies textbook.
Her fascinated stare at a Muggle bus did not win her favor with the man walking behind her, who was much more interested in reaching his destination than slowing to take in the sights of his usual route. He brushed past her rudely, snapping Daisy out of her trance as she had to readjust her bag. Daisy sighed. She'd have to tour London at a less busy time, she realized as she ducked into a doorway to pull out the map. After some searching, Daisy located the blinking star that magically indicated her position. Once she'd oriented herself, Daisy rejoined the crowd and began to walk toward her destination at a much more befitting pace, rudely brushing past the person in front of her.
