The card had found a home in her wallet rather than the trash. She'd tried very hard not to think about why that might be, and in the end decided there was no point in trying not to think about it. She should just think about it and come to the natural conclusion. Except, she never quite reached that. She hadn't seen him since, and she figured he'd probably left town. Had been passing through, been there for the fair, whatever. So she should probably stop thinking about him ... but he seemed to be creeping into her thoughts a lot. Which was weird. And kind of messed up. He was older than her. A lot older. But he'd been funny and kind of charming and she'd almost wished she'd accepted the dinner invitation. She could call him, she guessed, or text him, but ... somehow she wasn't sure it was the best idea. If he had left town, if he was maybe married, if he wasn't actually interested - or if he was - it was better to just leave it alone. Shaking her head, she slid her hands into the pockets of her jeans as she strolled along. The town after dark had always held a certain appeal to her, though she couldn't ever say what. When she was having trouble sleeping, or focusing, or anything, she found if she just wandered around, that usually took care of it. Passing by the gates of the cemetery, she listened to the various noises inside. Some of it was the wind, but some of it she thought was the low voices of the ghosts inside. They'd never really bothered her, either. Probably because she'd grown up here and was simply used to them. They'd never hurt her, and mostly they just babbled. With her hands buried in her pockets, her eyes looking ahead, Anna-Kat roamed in the gathering darkness, thinking, and simply enjoying the town at night. |
