"Maybe," she replied. It did sort of make her wonder how many of her friends had been friends and not simply people she hung out with because they'd come with pre-existing connections. How many was she even still in touch with any more? She called her brothers on a regular basis, and they called her, but ... aside from that?
She shook her head slightly and rolled her shoulders. "I keep thinking about heading there for real," she murmured. "Applying to their force. I just ... never do, and the excuses seem really transparent when I think about it. Like ... I bought a house. Like people don't fucking move every day, right? So why's that a hang up?" She glanced over to him even though the question was pretty much rhetorical. It wasn't. It wasn't an excuse, it wasn't a reason not to leave, but every time she really thought about it, started shopping jobs, something always seemed to come up to keep her here.
If she bought into the conspiracy shit, she'd believe the whole the town has a sentience thing. But she couldn't go that far. It was just ... chance.
She laughed quietly as she shook her head. "I should get moving pretty soon," she admitted. "Gotta finish clearing the bleachers before it gets too dark to see whatever might have been planted under them."
