It had started earlier that morning. Or rather, he'd noticed it that morning. First it had been scribbles in lipstick on the mirror. If he and Cassi shared a bathroom, it would've been explainable, but she had her own, and he had his own, and there was pretty much no reason for her to be scribbling on his mirror. That, and he couldn't see her wasting her cosmetics this way. So he'd wiped it off, and hadn't thought much more about it until he saw the weird jaggy lines that looked almost like some sort of ancient language appearing on the windshield of his truck on his way to the pickup game. The windshield washer fluid took care of most of the marks - at least until they showed back up in what seemed to be grease. So after wiping that off, he shook his head and headed to the basketball court. He, apparently, was the only one carting around this particular plague but the others at least saw the chalk drawings showing up on the asphalt of the court. It was kind of funny. Annoying, sure, but funny. Harmless. Not like some of the shit that he knew could stalk people. If this was his weird-ass encounter for the year, he'd take it. When the game broke for lunch, Jake took a couple of slices of his pizza to a bench in the shade, a coat of ice over his shoulders as he ate. And watched the little stick figures being drawn in the grass in what seemed to be paint by a hand he couldn't see. Well, welcome to Stormvale, right? |
