Overthinking

What: contemplating
When: Later night, July 12
Where: her couch
Status: Narrative
Some days - most days - she really didn't mind being alone. She didn't mind coming home from the barn, or work, and only finding cats and quiet waiting for her. But some days, for whatever reason, it just depressed the hell out of her. Today had been one of those days. With the rain still being iffy and a lack of desire to go back to the beach, she'd just exercised Rocket in the inside arena. She figured if it was reasonable over the weekend, she'd take him along the forest paths where she'd set up little obstacles he could jump. Nothing big, and nothing blocking the paths - she didn't want to interfere with the other riders, walkers, the bicyclists, whoever else ventured down those paths - but she did have fun with it. She wouldn't do it in the rain or the mud; the last thing she wanted was him slipping and breaking himself because she was being reckless. After she'd made herself dinner, taken a shower, and settled into her PJs, it still wasn't nearly time enough for bed. So she flopped down on the couch, reaching for the remote. Well, she was going to rewatch the Planet of the Apes movies, though she'd had an entirely different, not-alone scenario in mind when she'd mentioned it to Damon earlier. The whole thing felt like shaky ground, and she figured she should probably bail before she made an ass of herself. He'd agreed to a movie, sure, but everything about it had seemed more like they were setting a business meeting than setting up a date. She wasn't real sure what she was expecting though, but she thought maybe he'd want to see her in between, that he might've suggested they watch the other two movies together, that he might've been looking forward to seeing her. "All signs point to not interested," she muttered to the empty room. Well, nearly empty. At the sound of her voice, Chester meowed and rose, stretching, before dropping down from the recliner to head over to the couch. She jumped up on Jaime's belly before walking up to settle on her chest. Jaime set the movie to playing, then reached for her phone, checking for anything of note. She figured she should talk to someone before she made any sort of decision, but her options were slim. She guessed she could talk to Damon, but what was she going to say? She couldn't talk to Cassi, because if Cassi knew then Jake might find out, and if Jake knew, Damon might know. She had a few other people she could text or call, and as she scrolled through her contact lists, her thumb hovered briefly over Damon's name before she scrolled up to the entry labeled 'dad' and pressed the call icon. Her dad was pretty good at talking sense. If nothing else, he'd cheer her up. Putting the phone to her ear, she lowered the volume on the movie as she watched the beginning of the adventures of Caesar and his apes, her free hand stroking absently over Chester's back as the cat settled comfortably on her. And like that she figured she'd be, at least for a little while, while she chatted with her dad. |
