Rain Rides
Who: Jaime, open Maggie
What: dancing in the rain, sorta
When: July 11, late afternoon
Where: the beach
Status: open, ongoing
She was starting to feel ... busy. There was work, there was checking on the kittens and changing, there was checking on Rocket, and then there'd be ... well, all right, dinner but not a hell of a lot else. So maybe not that busy, but the kittens were definitely adding a layer of something to her life. She'd forgotten what kittens were like; it had been a while since Chester and Marlowe had been kittens. But she'd found the boy on top of the bookshelf most of the time, so rather than argue, she'd just placed pillows and comforters around the base of the shelf so if he feel he'd at least have a reasonable landing. Either way, the kittens were a worry for later. Right now, she was tending to Rocket. She'd thought about skipping the ride because of the rain and she wasn't interested in just going around in circles inside. The forest paths would probably be slicker than she cared to deal with, so that left the beach. Given that her saddle would need to be cleaned if she went out in the rain with it, she shrugged and figured, why bother? Heading to his stall, she snagged his bridle off the door before opening it up. "Hey, buddy," she greeted him. "Let's go get messy." Flipping the reins over his head, she made short work of bridling him before she headed out to the mounting block, snagging her helmet on the way out. She'd ride bareback in shorts, sure, but she'd at least have on sneakers and a hat. Rocket was pretty bomb-proof, but it only took once. After settling herself on his broad back, she headed down the trail to the beach. There was a steady drizzle, but not a heavy or hard rain, so she let him trot along the shoreline before nudging him toward the water. If they were going to get wet anyway, she may as well see how far out he'd go. Shifting her weight back to slow him to a walk, she laughed as he first pawed at the waves before wading into them. She figured he'd bail once it hit his knees, but he gamely kept going until he was up to his chest and sort of swimming when waves rolled in. Her legs were soaked up to her knees, and she was laughing as they paralleled the shoreline before she let him head back up. "Well, that answers that," she laughed as she draped herself over his neck, patting his wet chest. The rain had faded by now to just a heavy mist that sort of hung in the air, but hey, they were all wet anyway. Angling him down the shore, she let him walk along it while she just observed the dreary beach. |
