I want to start an Institute band. I'm not sure what kind of music yet. I've played drums for 20+ years, so any style is fine with me. It's really up to whoever's interested in joining, and I know for sure there's a few people here who are instrumentally/vocally inclined. Don't be shy, let's have some fun!

I won't be much help physically but I can sure tell you if your music looks good.

I'll be relying on you for that, I don't want ugly sound waves. hahaha

No you certainly don't. I mean gosh if you guys could see the way some music sounds... ugh. You'd be turned off by it too.

I can tell you, country songs look the saddest.
Songs with very heavy or fast bass look disorienting but not terribly unpleasing.
Pop-like songs tend to be flowy and with soft colors, which is really nice.
Alternative rock is the most interesting, I think. Tends to have a variation of color and texture that's fun to watch.

I'm sure there are more genres then that but I'm not particularly well acquainted with music.

Those descriptions make a lot of sense, actually. I'm a little jealous there's a dimension to the music I can't perceive, it seems like a really cool way to experience it. We should get together sometime and listen to albums. I wanna know how some of my favorites look to you.

It's definitely a different way to experiencing music. I wish I could hear what all the fuss was about, though.

That sounds like fun! Maybe after I see them I'll do a little animation of it. You can play it with the song and see what I see.

That would be awesome. Like those visualizer things on music players but what the sounds ACTUALLY look like.

Also, you just gave me an idea. I've never explored this possibility, mostly because I've never met a deaf psychic before, but there may be a way for me to telepathically convey the music I'm listening to to someone else's mind. I'll get back to you on that, it'll take some experimenting.

Yes!

Do you really think you could do that? That's... Wow. I don't even think I have words to say how incredible that would be.

Guitar. I can sing a bit, too. We're gonna have to hunt down a bassist...if those exist anymore.

In my experience, bassists are tough SOBs. Probably because of all the bassist jokes. Which are always funny.

Bassists will survive nuclear fallout. I'm pretty sure there's scientific evidence to back that up.

In a post-apocalyptic world, the only sound you can hear... is a rhythmic thumping you can tap your feet to, but doesn't stand out enough to really bother anyone.

Somewhere out there is a bassist who only plays covers of the Mad Max soundtracks.

Actually, there's probably a niche for that.

Why not? If I'm 90, Keith Richards is god damn Father Time, and he's still doin' his thing.

Anyway, you should join us. With how much you work out your vocal cords I'm sure singing would be no problem!

What? No, I don't sing.

It can't hurt to try. You can practice with us or you and I can work on it one-on-one, I would understand if you don't wanna do it in front of an audience for a while. For the record, I think you'd be a great singer.
