Kit wasn't allowed out of the house usually and his trips to the youth centre to pick up his boyfriend's young son were one of the few times he could go out to get any fresh air. It was brisk outside but he wrapped up like it was freezing; he had Conall's coat on, hanging massive on his smaller frame, and over his hoodie, a scarf around his neck covering his face a little and his hood up. The bruise at the corner of his mouth was hidden by the scarf but he'd employed a little make up to hide the shiner around his eye; it wasn't that he thought he hadn't deserved it, but people tended to ask questions and get confused and upset when he answered them. They didn't understand how his relationship functioned, how Conall needed to be treated carefully because he was fragile and how he needed a firm hand because he didn't have a lot of common sense on top of being pretty stupid and clumsy - the latter was the main reason Conall had to keep physically reprimanding him. He didn't know how Conall put up with him sometimes, but he did and it just made Kit love him more.
He got to the gate and kept an eye out for Cody, catching sight of him struggling with his own coat. He went to him to help out, encouraging Cody to slow down and remove the coat to put it back on. Cody wasn't in the mood though - he'd been grumpy all day, had smacked two different kids in the face and had a small tantrum while at school.
"Come on Cody, if you take it off we can untwist the arm and-"
He'd gone down on a knee to help the kid so it was easy for Cody to haul off and backhand Kit across the face, accompanied with 'stupid slut!' in a shrill and angry but gleeful voice. The slap had caught the edge of Kit's bruise and the shock of being treated like that by his boyfriend's kid in public left him speechless, staring at Cody with a hand over his injured face until the boy giggled and ran off.
