The wisps are being very industrious this afternoon. They're really overhauling the business district. One of them gave me a macchiato! It's pretty good. No idea where it got the little barista apron, though.

DM: Islanders

I took a stroll around the island today to count the houses. There's about a hundred of them, but some are pretty big. I'd guess we've never even gotten close to filling the place up, even before everyone else left.

they're so talented!!!

[Islanders]

love to COUNT things!! 🤝

there's 79 houses with 10 apartment units and 20 total inn rooms. so 109 total in-town, not including the business district. this also counts every home-like structure in octoberville as a house because a lot of them (like camilla's) seem like they were made to be multi-purpose for business and residency. i'm not sure how many are outside of the towns, though, but not a lot.

the day of the octoberville quake, we had 48 residents with 3 anticipated to arrive that day. goosetown's max capacity, assuming 1 person per residency, was 33 homes with 10 apartment units and 10 inn rooms. 53 total. so we WERE very close to filling the first town up before the second was made!!

which makes me wonder... was octoberville made to accommodate the island's projected growth? did the island expect (or at least hope) we'd fill it like goosetown? or was it leaving extra room to grow into?

The best part is after you're done with the drink they like to eat the cup.

[Islanders]
But Octoberville was around last time people were on the island, right? We found all that stuff from them in the community garden. So it's not new new, just for us. [...] I hope it doesn't go away now that there are so few of us, though.

i wonder if they recycle it somehow?

[Islanders]
yes! sorry, 'made' was the wrong phrasing. i guess more like 'unearthed'. but i wonder if there were other towns it could've chosen? what else is hiding underground?

i hope not, i spent too much time planning out my garden for it to just get slorped back into the ground. if i wake up one morning and there's nothing but dirt outside my window, i'll be upset.

For the sake of getting my daily coffee fix I'm not going to think about this too hard.

[Islanders]
So really there could be any number of towns and houses here. Which puts us back to square one for figuring out how may of us there might be. Or how many of us needed to be here for whatever Mother Goose wanted to do.

all water is recycled too. 😌

[Islanders]

well... there's a lot of wisps on the island. hundreds, easily, outside of town in the lighthouse and in the treehouse and probably elsewhere too. there were a lot of people on the island before it disappeared. i don't know what's going on with mother goose, though. she's just a big question mark on my conspiracy board.

I got one, too! I guess they got sick of my cappuccinos being the only coffee in town.

Do you think the town will pop back into the earth if we have less people now?

I wonder if they can do other drinks or if this is going to be a strict macchiato-cappuccino divide. Like the doritos.

[ISLANDERS]
Hopefully not while anyone's in it. [...] But I was kind of wondering if it might be smart for us to not be so spread out on the island? I was already pretty isolated before.

Oh, I hope we get more variety. Don't tell my shop wisps, but I'm kind of sick of cappuccinos.

Yeeeeah, that's probably a good idea, although I'm not sure what we can do about it, other than possibly ask The Well?

It's true! And I remain unwilling to go too far down the 'learning to make fancy coffee' rabbit hole, because I already know I'll wind up in too deep and be insufferable about it.

[ISLANDERS]
That's true, or I'm sure you could stay at any one of our houses, if you wanted to. I think most of us have got spare rooms.

My secret shame is that I think all coffee tastes kind of bad.

Maybe I will ask the Well if we can get another one of those fireplace portals to the farm and ranch, though. That seems pretty doable?

Fingers crossed. Wishbone only cost a penny so I think fresh vegetables are worth a portal for sure. It's weirder asking someone to their face, though.

I was working on sketching out an idea related to that. I was thinking maybe we could get some island and well help on making it come to life.

Where the ranch house used to be I was thinking of trying to make that into an bed and breakfast situation with a fireplace since that seems to be the portal way of things? That way people don't have to all just pile into your house for sleepovers or when people are traveling up north?

I wonder if we've disappointed them by not making enough businesses for them.
