The last year has been like a black hole sucking me inward, downward into nothingness.
It had been a long time since Felix had been forced to rebuild his home from scratch. Usually he just needed to maintain what he'd already done, repair additions and replace them when necessary, scrap out old parts for new as they became available, and to decorate what he kept. The storm, however, had brought floods with it and one of those floods had swept the Sprawl away. He'd already found it where it had ended up, mixed in with a myriad of other debris. Useless. He'd located few of his previous possessions but his favorites, like his collection of bugs, his silver tea set, and the bowling ball bag filled with money, were long gone.
He'd keep looking for them.
If someone found them before him he would take it back. By force if he had to. Probably with stealth.
In the meantime, homeless Felix who was homeless again, had taken up residence in one of the town's cages. He liked it there. The closed in feeling made him feel secure. Not to mention no one bothered him.
He'd stolen some blankets from the clinic. An ambulance had been left out front, the doors opened, inviting him inside and he'd decided it would be rude not to accept. Inside he found some blankets which were alright if you ignored the blood stain, which was easy for him. He'd also found some shiny equipment. His favorite was the scalpel.
All of it he hid at the bottom of the cage, beneath his blankets, so he could roam the city. It was prime time for hunting and gathering. There was all sorts of rubbish everywhere. Treasures everywhere. He just had to collect them and drag them to the building site of his new home so he could begin construction.
He was laying down for the night now, keeping an eye out for Reagan Elizabeth who he had never met before. She was going to bring him a book. Know Your Rodent. He couldn't wait to read it. There were pictures. It looked adorable.
While he waited for her he read My Side of the Mountain, another book that Jett had gave him during the flood. It had dried out. Mostly.
Resting on his shoulders, Felix's bare feet crawled up the bars of the cage. He hadn't found new shoes yet since he'd lost his. He barely had clothes too. At the moment he was wearing a pair of sweat pants that said 'PINK' across the backside and a t-shirt beneath a white sweatshirt printed across the right side of his chest and shoulder with a large black heart, studded with rhinestones. He didn't seem to realize or care that his outfit wasn't made for one of his gender. There was just him, his blood stained blanket, the book, and the cage.
