The lunatic is in the hall, the lunatics are in my hall...
WHO: Kyle Adams, Cynthia Reed
WHAT: Sisterly bonding
WHERE: Kyle's place
WHEN: Thursday July 1st, afternoon [backdated]
RATING: Low

Cynthia’s head was spinning as she packed a small bag to bring over to Kyle’s, jamming movies and snacks and girlish things until she could barely close it. Pursing her lips, she went through her selections and tossed a few aside. It wasn’t as if she was spending a few days with her sister – just one afternoon – but Cindy wanted to be prepared to spoil the hell out of Kyle. Her sister deserved it, especially considering her upcoming pregnancy. Cindy was already psyched about that.

Almost as an afterthought, Cindy sauntered through her apartment, ensuring that every window was closed and locked. This was an infinitely strange town, with equally odd inhabitants, and she wouldn’t put it past somebody to try to break in. This wasn’t a city, sure, but it wasn’t as quiet and safe as Greenwich, so it was best to take precautions when she could be bothered to remember. It wasn’t as if she was worried, per se; if she lost anything, her stepfather would simply replace it. But it wasn’t her physical possessions that concerned her.

She felt safe in her apartment. She didn’t want to lose that illusion.

Throwing everything into her car, Cindy adjusted her sunglasses and admired herself in the rearview mirror before pulling out of the parking lot and heading toward Kyle’s house. It wasn’t far, thank goodness, though the wind in her hair was pleasant, and she thought nothing of singing along to the songs on the radio even though she knew she didn’t have a perfect voice.

She couldn’t be good at everything, after all.

Pulling into the driveway, Cindy got out of the car and gathered her things, slamming the door closed with her hip. Then she trundled up to the front door and pressed the doorbell twice, just to make sure Kyle heard it.
