Thread: Kara & Mel
Who: THE REDHEAD ARMY aka Kara Kingston and Melody Winter.
When: June 3rd. Late afternoon.
Where: Perked!
What: Knitted cuteness. And coffee.
Rating: Low.

Kara had the little crocheted dragon tucked away in her bag as she walked down the road to Perked. She had finished her shift at Buds & Blossom a short while ago and had arranged to meet Melody at Perked around four, since neither knew where the other lived.

Dressed in a red v-necked shirt, jeans and black Chuck Taylors, with her messy red bob swinging, she headed to the coffee shop that was one of the focal points of downtown. Fortunately, it wasn't peak hours, quite yet. She glanced around for someone who might look like a Melody. Although she didn't know what Melody looked like! But she didn't see any women sitting solo, so she ordered herself a chai tea and a cranberry muffin and grabbed herself a table.

Pulling the little green dragon from her bag, she sat him on the center of the table. That way Melody would know it was her when she came in!

The news of the forced pregnancies had quite unsettled Melody and she had been inattentive during her whole shift at the library. She had spilled coffee over a book, had messed up the online system somehow and was in general just happy to be done for the day, though she was sure it the next shift wouldn't be that nice.

So when Kara had asked for a meeting she had agreed readily, even though she didn't know the other girl. But she seemed really sweet over the notebooks and any kind of distraction was more than welcome now.

She was dressed in one of her comfy skirts, a red one, those with an elastic waistband so it wouldn't press too hard on the new piercing, and a simple, surprisingly non-frilly, willy shirt on top and ballet flats. When she entered Perked, she looked around, wondering how to recognize the other girl, since she had no idea how she looked liked, but she smiled brightly when she saw the little dragon on the table.

"Hi, I'm Melody!"

Kara broke a piece off her muffin, and was about to pop it into her mouth when she heard a voice. Setting the muffin morsel down, and looking up she smiled at the girl. Melody. She looked like a Melody.

"Hi, I'm Kara," she said and she offered out her hand for purposes of shaking.

"How are you?" she asked. "I got here early so I figured I'd get us a table." And some herbal refreshment for herself!

Shaking the outstretched hand Melody smiled at the other girl and sat down on the opposite side of the table. "It's really nice to meet you, Kara. And that little fellow is way cuter in real life than on a picture."

She grinned and reached into her bag, getting Nessy out of it to put her next to the little dragon. "See, they even have the same size!" Yes, this was definitely cute! And a very good distraction from thinking too much.

She waved at one of the waiters, pity it wasn't Oli or Luks, and ordered her Caramel Macchiato.

	They were a match well made! The two little reptiles were the same size and very close in colour as well. "A match made in heaven," she laughed as she cupped her hands around her mug of tea, still pipping hot, the warmth soaking through. "They are!" Melody agreed with a cheerful smile, pushing the two plushies a bit closer together, making it look like they were snuggling.

She smiled at the waiter that brought her coffee, feeling very tempted to ask for a piece of chocolate pie, but deciding against it in the end. Knowing that she'd singe her tongue, she still took a sip from her hot coffee, loving how the sweet and bitter taste exploded on her tongue.

She nodded at the question, smiling. "I was born in Los Angeles, but my parents moved here right after I was born. I've spent all my life here." Which was nice, in her opinion. She liked the town, except when it went crazy like it had been the last few days. "You're pretty new around here, aren't you?"

Kara wondered what it would be like to spend your whole life in this town with vampires. To grow up knowing they were more than just something of myths and stories.

"I've only been here about... a month," she replied after she thought about it quickly. She popped a piece of muffin into her mouth.

"I thought it seemed a nice, quiet town to settle in." And it was a nice town. Just one run by vampires. Whoops.

Melody smiled wryly at that. "Yeah, that was what my parents thought, too. I think they never really got over it."

Specially her mom hadn't, and after the fire it had gotten a lot worse. She didn't go outside anymore and hid away in her room. But at least she was healthy again, or as healthy as one could be after a stroke.

"It is a nice town, actually. Just the last days have been crazy."

"It is really pretty." Kara had to give Shadow Falls that. It was a nice, quaint little town, with lots of trees and woods and scenery. Lots of great places for gardens. She liked that.

"And the people seem nice." Well, the ones who didn't want to shove their fangs into her! She had only been bitten once since her arrival, thankfully.

"The last few days have been crazy. And how weird is it we were talking about babies ansd this whole... baby thing comes up?" Odd!

"Have you been to the lake already? I really love it there, it's so serene and calm, specially in the evening." It was Melody's absolute favorite place and she spent a lot of time there, though not as much time as night as she used to.

"Most of the people here are really nice and kind." She still couldn't quite believed what they had set in motion after her parents' house had burnt down.

"I have been, I walked there once last week," Kara replied and she smiled. "It's really very pretty. I ducked my feet in. Next time I'll have to remember to bring my swimsuit."

Sipping at chai tea that had cooled to a reasonable temperature, she smiled over the lip. Melody seemed like such a nice girl - someone she could really be friends with!

"I was surprised. At first I wondered if it was a joke!"

"I'm so happy it's warm enough to swim in it again!" Melody smiled, remembering the discussion she'd had with Jax about what could be in the lake.

Wrapping both her hands around her cup she blew over the hot coffee a few times before she took another sip, the liquid this time not searing hot anymore.

"It was just...I still don't really know what to think about all that, really. But things like that are hardly ever a joke here."

"I love the summer." It wasn't summer quite yet, not officially, but that was only a couple weeks away. So close enough. "We should go swimming sometimes." She found it more fun with company.

"I don't know either," she said with a little pursed lip look. "It's just so strange. Although I've been noticing that strange is not so strange here." Normal would be strange.

"I just... I can't even imagine. Artificial insemination? It's so impersonal."

"Me too! I can't wait to run around barefoot again!" Melody loved feeling earth and grass and even stones under the soles of her bare feet, there was nothing better about summer than that. Even though she ended up with one or the other shard or nail in her feet, too. But she was kinda used to that.

Despite the seriousness of the topic, Melody giggled lightly, nodding. "This is Strange Headquarters, anything's possible here." At least that was how she saw it, and in a sense it was the truth, too.

"Well...if you have a significant other, you don't have to do it that way.." she muttered, blushing lightly at the implications.

"Oh I love the feel of grass between my toes," Kara said with a smile. "And sand. And mud." And other things! Anything soft or squishy!

"So does that mean Seargant Strange is up there somewhere, plotting more oddities?" she asked and she laughed, glad for a bit of levity. Pregnancy was an intimidating subject, but she needed to laugh.

"Oh? Do you have a significant other?" Melody was blushing!

"I know right?!" Melody exclaimed happily when Kara agreed with her. "Yes! Mud is fun to walk in and dance in, too!" Walking barefoot in general was a great thing!

"He has to be here somewhere, spurting all this insanity." Melody muttered with a soft laugh, shaking her head. It was an imusing image in her head, a weird guy with a sergeant's uniform and word bubbles falling off him. "It always goes stranger here, no matter what you just saw."

She blushed even harder at the question, a silly smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "I..uh..yes, I do."

Melody couldn't help but giggle, nodding at boyfriend, then shaking her head at girlfriend, only to nod again. "It's a boyfriend, yes." she answered with a smile, still not really able to believe that he was so amazingly supportive.

Her smile turned a little dreamy and she took another, larger sip of her coffee now that it was drinkable. "His name is Judah, he runs the ice cream parlor here, When Hell Freezes Over."

The more they talked about Jude, the darker her cheeks became. She really didn't want to gush and be mushy, but it was hard to hold back.

	"Oh, I've been there," Kara said with recognition at the ice cream shop's name, althoug not the owner's. "I had the most divine strawberry sundae. He does good work," she grinned. The ice cream parlour had definitely caught her notice when she had arrived, what with the ice cream and all. And then funny name. "How long have you been together?" Melody's face lit up with a bright smile when Kara praised the ice cream and she nodded eagerly. "It's the best ice cream I've ever eaten!" She giggled softly. "Then again I think I'm pretty biased when it comes to that."

Tilting her head back so she could get the rest of her coffee out of the cup she took another sip, licking the milk-caramel mix off her upper lip. "Two months and two days." she said, blushing again. It felt so much longer than that!
