Who: Hazel and Kaira
What: Talking and trying to work things out
When: Tuesday 11:00
Where: Perked
Rating: Moderate

Hazel had found the coffee shop the day before after she and Kaira made plans to go there, so when the clock on her car turned eleven, she was pulling into the parking spot. While she'd never been punctual, she had wanted to be on time for this one. Things weren't really going well between her and Kaira and she really did want to see if they could be friends again, the last thing she needed to achieve this was to make Kaira think she was standing her up.

She walked into the coffee shop and spotted her at one of the tables. She gave a tentative smile and walked over toward the table. This was the first time Hazel had seen Karia since she left New York, but she had recognized her immediately. She hadn't been sure if she would have changed a lot or something, though Hazel hadn't changed much so she didn't know why she thought her old friend had.

An apology would probably be a good start to the conversation, but Hazel had never been one to apologize. She had done so on a few rare occasions and possibly even to Kaira before, but she never did it unless she really really had to. She wasn't really the touchy-feely sort. More like the abrasive, bitchy sort. Though sometimes that was what put her in positions like this.

"Hi," she said softly. The talking things out thing wasn't her area of expertise either. She was more used to arguing and yelling until a person gave in. The thing was, she didn't think that would help in this situation. Kaira had said she didn't want to fight with Hazel and honestly, there was a part of Hazel that didn't either. She was just so torn on the matter. Why had Kaira suddenly gone? Did it have anything to do with Hazel? The biggest question was... could she trust her again?

Always the punctual one, Kaira had managed to arrive at Perked earlier than she planned for, though it all worked out in her favor as she was able to secure a table, though she held off on ordering anything. Hazel was a volatile one, and might take such a gesture the entirely wrong way. Kaira wasn't here to pick a fight; she wanted to patch a friendship back together.

She and Hazel had gone through a lot while trying to make their band work together, and despite her abrasive exterior, Kaira knew that her friend cared about others. Not once had she ever opened up and explained why she kept everyone at arm's length, but Kaira understood not wanting to talk about the past. Very few of her Manhattan friends had known about Samantha, or the long-lasting affect it had on her.

Sure, it fueled a lot of her creativity, but she would have given it all up to have her best friend back.

Leaning back in her chair and stretching her legs, Kaira idly tapped at her BlackBerry while waiting. Almost on the dot, Hazel stepped through the door, scanning the coffee shop before spotting Kaira and heading over. Surprisingly, instead of cutting right to the chase, she only offered up a short greeting, throwing Kaira off.

"Hi," she said in return. Her eyes flickered to the chair across the table, indicating Hazel should sit down. Drinks could wait a few minutes.

Hazel already felt extremely uncomfortable and it most likely showed. She had never been good at this sort of thing. But she had promised herself--and Kaira--that she would try. She really did miss Kai, but there was no way to work out their friendship, or even try to, if they didn't take this step. The awkward step. Quite possibly the reason that when friends walked out on her she never saw them again, because this wasn't something she liked to do.

She had been standing the whole time but when she saw Kaira's eyes move to the chair across from her, Hazel moved to sit down, wringing her hands together in her lap once she was seated. She didn't know what to say. She didn't like small talk and as this wasn't her area of expertise, she didn't really know how to get to the point without coming off as a total bitch. Wait, she was a total bitch.

"So..." she said, trailing off. Oh yes, this was going very well. "How have you been?" she asked, wincing visibly at her question. And the useless small talk will commence, she thought sarcastically. Unless Kaira chose to get to the point, but Hazel wasn't really sure of what her old friend thought of the situation so she couldn't be sure what she would do.

((Sorry this took so long. I've been having... issues.))

Kaira blinked, then laughed softly. Interesting question, considering how limited her possible responses were. Hazel was still as innocent as Kaira had been upon first arrival; it had only been upon seeing Ciardha's fangs that Kaira had actually accepted the existence of vampires. How could she not?

However, Hazel wasn't about to believe her any more now than she had before, so that was a topic best left unsaid. With any luck, she could ensure that Hazel's discovery was done in relative safety.

"Not bad," she said slowly, leaning back in her chair and regarding the other girl openly. "I'm sorry for running out."

Kaira wasn't the kind to shy away from apologizing when she honestly felt she was in the wrong, or when admitting as such would gain her something. In this case, she needed Hazel's friendship back - she missed the girl terribly - and did feel bad about the way she'd abandoned everybody in New York.

Guilt. Regret.

Kaira pursed her lips and waited.

[Oh god me too. I understand <3]

Hazel hadn't been surprised at all by the laugh, though she didn't know the real reasoning behind it either. Hazel's assumption was that Kaira knew well enough that Hazel hated smalltalk and how uncomfortable for her this must be if she was resorting to it. She had no idea that Kaira's thoughts were on vampires or Hazel's insistence that they couldn't exist.

However, when the smalltalk ended with something Hazel couldn't really ask about further and Kaira added an apology that cut them to the topic they should be on, Hazel sighed audibly in relief. If only it were that easy, though. Forgive and forget?

That wasn't Hazel's strong point by far.

She bit down on her lip gently and glanced down at the table. "For what it's worth, I want to believe you," she said softly. If she wanted to, why couldn't she? She glanced up at Kaira. She really did look like she wanted to move past this. When talking in the notebooks, Hazel was sure Kaira didn't mean a thing she said, which was why she felt meeting in person would be better.

"It's just never been easy for me," she added in explanation. "I've never been able to forgive and forget and just... trust someone again."

((<3 You're so incredibly patient.))
