Current music:10 Years - Russian Roulette
Entry tags:gabriel steele, kaira conners

The battle you picked was so one-sided, now depending on me the one you invited...
Who: Kaira Conners, Gabriel Steele
What: Kaira wants a pair of adorable bunnies as pets, and Gabriel offered her some aid.
When: Sunday evening (forward dated)
Where: The woods.
Rating: TBD

Slowly but surely, Kaira was becoming more wary of her surroundings, more aware of what went on in this town and realizing that her best chance of survival would be to lay low. She couldn’t seem to stop antagonizing people through those strange Notebooks, but she’d never been able to contain her temper all that well. Besides which, a lot of the attitudes she’d encountered simply irritated the hell out of her; something she clearly needed to change her reaction to if she planned on surviving for any great length of time.

That or she would have to build a steady group of allies, but considering how many humans refused to say or do anything that might garner the attention of a vampire, let alone promise to watch someone’s back, things had gone very slowly. Dee was certainly an ally and, she hoped, a friend, but the woman was impulsive and impatient. Kaira worried that Dee would jump the gun and do something stupid that might get her killed.

Kaira sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose, trying to focus on where she was walking rather than all the wild thoughts raging through her head. Too much to think about, too little time to reach conclusions, and little left after that to put much into action. She was feeling cornered, but a part of her was beginning to accept that. Aside from her nasty run-in with Herrick, she hadn’t encountered any disagreeable vampires who had physically done her harm, and the human crime rate seemed to be relatively low.

Aside from the whole never being able to leave town bit, Kaira might have grown to enjoy living in Shadow Falls.

Shaking her head and dispelling such thoughts, she idly reached out, touching tree limbs and flowers as she passed, keeping her flashlight aimed low. Gabriel had said to meet him in the woods, but he hadn’t specified where. It was pleasant enough just to wander around, listening to the quiet night sounds and enjoy the cool breeze, but she was burning with curiosity about the bunnies and, truth be told, about Gabriel.

He didn’t strike her as a bad person. Some vampires gave off an immediate vibe of ‘fuck with me and die’ and others were more approachable. From what little she’d interacted with him, he’d been unusually pleasant, which was the only reason she was out here, by herself, seeking him out, rather than dragging as many people along as possible.

Kaira wasn’t known for making good decisions at the best of times, but when she got something in her head, she went after it tenaciously.

A vampire that liked nature couldn’t be so bad, could he?

Pausing by a small clearing, she tilted her head, growing weary of trying to track him down. Vampires had amplified hearing, didn’t they?

“Gabriel?” she called out uncertainly, belatedly hoping there was no one else there.

Gabriel was quite a puzzling creature. Looking at him, she never would have guessed he came from a wealthy family, but she’d recognized the prestige of the Manhattan location long before he had explained. Central Park did not hold a candle to this forest, though there were some portions of it where people often did not go. She’d discovered quite a few on her own, seeking solitude and inspiration.

However, the park simply wasn’t very safe, so she had never explored fully.

“I came from Manhattan as well. I needed…open air.” It seemed a feeble excuse now, the randomly chosen town in the same general area as her parents, not so far away that they would be worried but far enough that they would not drop by for random visits every weekend. It had been the single most stupid decision she’d ever made in her life, and there was no way for her to fix it.

She noticed his gaze slipping, the way he’d looked at her throat, and she began mentally making a checklist of clothing to buy – buttoned shirts and turtlenecks among them.

“I thought someplace quiet would suit me for a while.” Kaira kept herself from inching backwards again, though her breath was becoming rather unsteady, uncertainly and wariness wrapping her up and lending caution to every movement, every look.

The compliment slipped from his lips so easily, she wondered if he was lying, and if he was accustomed to saying such things to whomever crossed his path. Thrown off – he seemed to flit from topic to topic like a bumblebee, leaving her dazed – her gaze dropped.

“Thank you.”

The sound of her heartbeat seemingly rising echoed through his sensitive ears as her own breathing caught his attention. She looked as if she wanted to squirm, to slowly get up and move out of his line of vision - the thought alone made him smile wider but he never uttered verbally of how he noticed her uncomfortableness. It was better to remain silent and let the other person sit and think in their own fear, thoughts, curiosity, etc.

"This place is quiet." he finally said simply, letting the bunny finally leave his lap as his chill fingers came up under her chin to lift her stare back to his own, the cool digits stroking the soft warm skin. It was quiet at the moment. Eerily. The forest seemed to have hushed to a light whisper of wind, the light scampering of the bunnies around them the only sound that could be heard - above her breathing that is. Her flashlight started to flicker lightly and Gabriel did the honors of reaching his free hand out to shut the thing off, leaving them just in the moonlight's glow. Her eyes had to have been adjusted by now, and if not, she probably didn't want to see what was coming next anyways.

"You don't take compliments well, do you?" He laughed lightly. "Shy delicate thing, your skin is like porcelain. Very pretty.." His fingers were still on her face, fingertips grazing now lightly over her jawline as if he were sculpting her features on molding clay. "You know what I am, don't you?"

“I’m not used to them.”

Only a partial lie; she was complimented often enough, though usually by people who wanted something out of her, and this didn’t seem to be any different. The likelihood of him allowing her to take two bunnies home without some sort of payment was becoming slim, and she remained very still as he shut the flashlight off and began to trace over her skin.

Her skin tingled, the lack of lighting causing her other senses to flare, tasting the potential danger and reacting accordingly. She was acutely aware of his touch, of the dampness against her bare legs, the dirt that was inevitably ingraining itself into her skirt and would take a dry cleaner to get out. She could feel the relative silence, as if the entire forest was holding its breath, the frolicking rabbits the only oblivious creatures.

“I know what you are.” A pointless question on his behalf, unless he was trying to drive home a point. Yes, yes, she realized she was stupid, and was coming to grips with the fact that not only was she going to continue making idiotic decisions, but one of them was going to end with her dead.

However, the reactions Gabriel caused were more thrilling than anything else. She was well aware of how dangerous he was, and yet the feel of being threatened was dissipating.

Unable to sustain herself any longer in such an odd position, Kaira pressed her hands into the forest floor behind her, propping herself up and managing to put a few more centimeters of space between them.

He could feel every tingle, every shiver that her skin let loose felt like tiny electric pulses over his sensitive fingers. He always loved to adore a human's skin, it was in his nature to savor the heat their bodies radiated that his craved - touch was like his foreplay before a bite, to get himself warmed up to the inevitable heat that would course from her veins and down his throat once he had his fill from just touching her.

"There's no need to be afraid, Kaira.." He assured when her sudden gesture pulled her backward on her hands, eliminating the closeness. He almost pouted as if he were disappointed that she had cut the intimate space that had been between them, his head tilting curiously as he leaned forward himself as if to regain that space she just made up for. Of course, this made him seemingly close since he was practically nose to nose with her, licking over his top lip as her delicious scent just became more and more tempting. "I'm not going to hurt you, just trust me." he urged softly, his eyes searing into hers. He wished to thrall her, he felt calm enough to focus on those beautiful pools of blue, willing her to look back. He was never an expert at the thrall but he could shift them enough to make them compliant enough. "You can pick your bunnies out after this is over.." he whispered. "I won't hurt you" he continued to repeat, waiting to see if the human would respond to his attempt.

Kaira found herself responding to his proximity in a much more accepting manner than she normally would. It was disturbing, but her mind was growing fuzzy, compliant, malleable. Something in his gaze was hypnotizing, and she couldn’t bring herself to look away.

There was plenty of time; why was she in such a hurry? So many hours left in the night, so many more things he could show her. Staying longer, even the space that barely existed between them, began to make more sense, and she couldn’t refute the logic her mind was substituting for common sense.

Body relaxing, fingers digging into the dirt, Kaira tilted her head as well, like a curious bird, studying him as much as he was studying her. She’d never seen a vampire up close like this, not in a situation where she had the luxury of actually seeing rather than trying to block everything from her memory. He was definitely attractive, and Kaira did not doubt part of that was to lure prey in close.

Was that what she’d become? Prey? Was that the only reason he’d offered the baby bunnies to her?

The thoughts dissipated, and Kaira felt rather lost. Confused and beginning to feel frightened again, she shook her head slightly and blinked, then found herself drawn in again.

“After what is over?” she managed to ask, her strength and stubbornness fighting to the surface.

It seemed to be working. As much as he loved the screams of a meal piercing the quietness of the wooded area, sometimes thrall worked well enough when his precious furry friends were around. He never wished to scare them, as heavenly as a good scream sounded to his ears. There had to have been something about males and their desire to make women scream, Gabriel loved it during a bite just because it was practically like sex to him. It was an odd combination, he supposed, but all of this was foreplay to him before he'd lean in for the deed.

His fingers came back up again to trace over her features, moving a strand of hair away from her slender neck while smiling to her question. "Shhh.." he just hushed her to her questions, leaning himself in to capture her mouth with his own in a gentle, un-probing kiss that he continued to trail over her jaw then down the curve of her neck. "You'll see." His voice was sweet like honey, calming and cool as he continued the kisses down to where neck met shoulder. It was there he found the pulse point, sucking her scent through his nostrils appreciatively before his gleaming fangs made an appearance and sank into the warm flesh, releasing a delicious splash of crimson into his hungry greedy mouth.

The kiss was unexpected and only served to further distract her. She felt herself responding with a surprising hunger, kissing back and then tilting her head away, shivering pleasantly at the feel of his lips against her skin. Gabriel exuded confidence that she’d never encountered before, and it was intoxicating. Shifting her weight to one hand, she raised the other to the nape of his neck, fingers lightly touching his skin as if she were afraid she would burn.

Then the spell was broken. Little gasps turned into a sharp cry of pain, and Kaira fell backwards, her single arm unable to support her weight any longer. It wasn’t as painful as with the others, but she hadn’t been expecting it, all suspicions dampened beneath his gaze and then his mouth.

Tears stung her eyes, a few spilling down her cheeks, though her mind was still befuddled enough that she wasn’t sure what was pressing her to weep. The hand that had been timidly touching his skin slid quickly between them, fingers splaying across his chest, as if to try to push him away. After a few stunned moments, Kaira closed her eyes, trying and failing to stop trembling.

The realization that it wasn’t so bad hit her like a subway train, leaving pieces of her scattered all over the forest.

Even if his mouth had latched on to her skin with a viper-like quickness, his hands were still stroking her body in gentle caresses.. as if to urge and lull her into a soft acceptance that there really was nothing she could do about this. Her light touches on his skin only made his mouth grin on her flesh, moaning in appreciation to the delectable flavor sliding down his throat. Her small spike of fear only added another delicious tang to her sweet blood, maneuvering himself so that when she fell back to the earth, he had crawled over her like a looming bear. He covered every inch of her, stealing the heat from her body while his mouth gluttonously stole her life liquid, loose bangs from his blond ponytail falling to tickle her skin.

Fingers danced over her sides, stroking lightly on bare skin under her shirt in an attempt to pretend to soothe when it was just a perfect reason to touch warm human flesh. Before long, he was breathless from the overzealous amount he had taken from her and unlatched from her skin once he felt he had his fill. MMmming lightly against her ear, he lapped at her neck, over the dastardly punctures with his wet warm tongue then kissed a light blood trail back up her neck to her jaw where he nestled his face against hers with a soft laugh. "See, wasn't so bad." He reassured, licking over his scarlet lips.

Kaira was feeling lightheaded enough that her responses were delayed. His touch left her skin burning and aching, and it took a disturbing amount of time to realize that he’d stopped feeding, was now resting against her like a sated lover, and clarity began to return.

Swallowing, she closed her eyes again, this time leaving them that way, feeling weary and drained. Sure, it hadn’t been a traumatic experience, but she still felt violated, which contrasted darkly with that tingling that had accompanied his fingers and the short trail he’d left on her throat. Idly, she wondered what sort of sight they made, lying on the forest floor, likely covered in dirt and leaves and debris, him poised over her like a fresh kill, her likely stained with her own blood, probably standing out impressively on her pale skin.

Slowly, her breathing relaxed, and she felt strong enough to open her eyes, staring up at the sky. Her hands, which had fallen to her sides, rose, one gently probing the area he had bitten as if unable to believe the marks that were healing even existed, the other resting lightly on his back.

“No, it wasn’t,” she said quietly, almost unwilling to disturb the tranquility.

The intoxicating scent of her blood still lingered in the air around them as Gabriel continued to nuzzle his now much warmer nose against her skin, lightly giving her temple a soft kiss before chuckling to himself. Sufficiently pleased. A job well done, his thrall must be getting better. And yet, she wasn't screaming or yelling for him to get off. In fact, the hand on his back took him by surprise, only because she still seemingly didn't mind the contact. His ego just couldn't get much bigger.

He finally moved his face just so his eyes could lock once more on hers, pushing himself up on one arm on the side of her head while his free hand just continued to skim her face, collecting up the little blood drops that he had kissed up her porcelain fles. Sucking those bloody fingers into his mouth, they just went back to trace her perfect mouth. "I told you I wouldn't hurt you. Do you trust me now?" That syrupy voice still stayed lowered, unwilling himself to move off of her just yet just to see how she'd continue to react, even if he dipped down to kiss her again to purposely let it linger. The bunnies were still around! In fact they were curiously hopping around them now, one being so brave to actually hop up on Gabriel's back and peer down at them over his shoulder which only made the vampire chuckle in amongst the lip lock.

No, Kaira wanted to say. Trust was a precious commodity in this town, and he has hurt her; just not very much, and somehow, he'd made the process almost enjoyable. If anything, his attentions were more than tolerable.

Conflicting thoughts and emotions eventually led to her deciding not to think very hard at all. Rely solely on instinct - it hadn't gotten her very far, but it was certainly easier, and she didn't think she was currently capable of wholly rational thinking.

Besides, he'd kissed her again, effectively silencing whatever else she'd been about to say. If she'd noticed the bunny staring at them as if they were some circus side show, she would have burst out laughing too, which was sort of rude mid-kiss. Luckily for her, since her own ego wouldn't have been able to withstand the blow and she would have had to shove him away and run all the way to her apartment, lock and bar the door, draw the curtains tight, and hide beneath her comforter.

Instead, still feeling an odd lingering attachment, her mouth opened and she leaned up into the kiss.

This was just getting easier and easier! Perhaps Gabriel shouldn't count his chickens before they hatched but he certainly was getting a fun night in just from wanting to give away bunnies! Her open mouth made him only hesitant for a moment since, well, he had just drank her blood and the taste would probably make her recoil but the blond's mouth was a greedy mouth. He pushed his mouth crushingly hard into hers, his fangs disappeared right on cue before his tongue slid along hers. If this wasn't so gosh darn wrong, it would have probably been romantic had they been lovers under the moonlight making out in the wet grass. Again, Gabriel smirked at the thought while suckling on the human's own tongue, tempted to pierce the muscle itself with a fang lying in wait. Blood was blood after all.

"Do you want your bunnies yet?" he asked between kisses, indulgently settling his hard body against hers to steal that close heat once more. "I'm sure they're waiting to go home with you.." he purred playfully, breaking the lip lock to give her a quirky smile. "Or I can continue."

The temptation was there to simply give in to his every whim, and that very desire sent warning bells off in her mind. The less clouded it became, the more she questioned what was happening, and the motives behind her actions. It was as if she’d temporarily fallen into a dream, and it left her feeling unsettled.

“I don’t know,” she whispered honestly, fighting off the confusion and the clinging fear that she was nothing more than a child getting in over her head. Not for the first time, or the last, she wished she’d never left Manhattan, had never parted from her friends or the opportunities that had awaited her there. Inspiration had been drained, but her decision obviously hadn’t improved her situation any.

And now she had been kissing a vampire, right after he’d bitten her. She’d tasted her own blood, reveled in his touched and, most disturbingly, had enjoyed it. Her skin still burned, flushed with heat and itching for more. His own skin wasn’t as cold as before, and though she wasn’t sure why the explanation came to mind, she suspected he’d been drawing the warmth from her own body.

Vampires stole life essence in many folk tales. Perhaps it was true in real life.

Her eyes flicked down to his lips, then back up to meet his gaze again.

She didn't know. Aw, the glorious smile that perked on Gabriel's lips as her eye contact seemed to flit from his mouth back to his eyes - he was basking in this like a hot bath with bubbles. "Why don't you know?" he asked curiously, feeling obligated to lean back down and captured her mouth in a searing hot kiss that would leave her breathless before he leaned back up on his haunches so he was straddling her smaller frame. The bunny that had been peek-a-boo'ing at them over his shoulder had hopped off and was too concerned with some bark at the moment as the blonds fingers toyed down the center of the female's torso. He loved taking his sweet time with her, she seemed to react beautifully to his touch so he couldn't help but continue to tip toe his fingertips all over her.

One of the tan bunnies had managed to hop up to her head and sniff her curiously as Gabriel chuckled and nodded to the small animal. "I think they want to go home, Kaira.." he trailed off before pushing himself up off of her and held an hand out to her "We can do this again.. another time.." he trailed off "If you like." A little bit of anticipation never hurt anyone, did it?

Later, Kaira would be eternally grateful for Gabriel's relative self-control. If she'd stooped to actually sleeping with a vampire, she would never forgive herself. She was still incapable of moving past her hatred for a majority of the creatures.

As it was, presently, she felt disappointment, though she valiantly did not show it as she took his hand and allowed him to help her up. She blinked a few times as if regaining her bearings, then knelt and groped for her flashlight, scooping up the curious tan bunny with the other hand.

Kaira eyed him thoughtfully, trying to figure out the proper way to part. Offering her thanks seemed out of place, considering he'd bitten her against her will, but at the same time, he'd given her a baby bunny.

Shifting her weight, Kaira flicked the flashlight on just for something to do, then nodded at him vaguely.

Whether it was 'self-control' or not, Gabriel wasn't sure. But if she seemingly wanted this as much as she did at the moment, he could cut it short and perhaps leave her wanting more in the end. It never hurt to drag them along a little for his own amusement. He just gave her warm hand a gentle squeeze and leaned down to pick up the other tan bunny that was roaming around their feet and handed it to her. "Here, bring them both home tonight. We can still see each other without having the bunnies be the only reason we meet. Right?" he winked playfully at her then leaned in just to kiss the center of her forehead.

He was pleased with how the night had ended. He had gotten more than he had thought he would as he nodded to the trail "Follow it and you'll find your way out easily. I'll keep an eye on you." He spoke quietly while he sat back on the damp grass to tug a few animals back into his arms.
