Thread: Ian and Delia

What: As promised, Ian picks up Delia at the blood bank

3 o'clock in the afternoon wasn't exactly Ian's happy hour. The sun was high enough in the West to cause an annoying glare against his sunglasses. But his long sleeves and the high collar of his smart black double-breasted trench covered his skin. He could feel the light drawing strength out of his limbs, but this was definitely going to be worth the moderate amount of discomfort.

He parked on the human side of the Blood Bank and waited out front. Lots of humans went in and out of the place on a regular basis, and Ian didn't know exactly what Delia looked like, but he was pretty good at reading people. He was looking for a slight woman, and one who would be scanning the area for him since she knew he was going to meet her there. Anything beyond that would be a surprise, and Ian loved surprises--especially of the human and weak variety.

More than likely, she would know that he was a vampire right off the bat. The way daylight made it difficult to dress normally, and the light really wasn't bright enough for a human to be donning sunglasses. He was counting on his charm to get her in the car, but if worse came to worse, he could just use force, or thrall.

Her company might have been expecting her to be looking for him, but she wasn't. By the time she stumbled out of the blood bank, she'd mostly forgotten she'd ever asked someone to take her home. It wasn't that she didn't need the help, as much as she hated to admit it. She was 5'2 (5'1 1/2 if you asked a doctor or anyone with a measuring tape) and hardly 115 pounds. This was not an allowable weight for donation under any normal circumstances, but here, she didn't have a choice. So whenever she had to give blood, she was dizzy and disoriented for the rest of the day.

As much as she needed someone to help her, however, she sincerely doubted anyone would show up. It was in her very nature to be negative, and this was no exception. Many people had offered but in the end, she hadn't accepted it. Except for one individual, but she had no faith that he'd actually show.

He sounded like a pain in the ass, frankly, and she couldn't trust him farther than she could throw him (and considering her height an weight, it was unlikely she'd be able to throw him far). She had just assumed he wouldn't show, and in the end, gone alone.

She did lots of things alone. It was part of her independent nature. But sometimes it screwed her over, like when she had to give blood and ended up unable to really function or even walk straight. It made driving difficult, so usually she would take a taxi. Today would be the same as always, she had no doubt. Go outside, collapse on the bench, and call the taxi.

The blonde stumbled out of the blood bank with a bottle of energy drink in one hand and her cell in the other. She only brought enough money for the taxi fare. She didn't need to have anything stolen while she was so out of it. She was dressed quite impressively, in a pencil skirt and a dressy blouse, but her hair was slightly disheveled and her spike heels were stowed in her bag. The three inches they gave her made her feel a little less tiny, but heels when she was in such a state as a bad plan. She had a pair of flats that could roll up and fit in her purse, which had hastily been thrown on her feet. It was better than falling over.

She didn't make any note of the people hanging around as she stumbled to the bench she had visited every week for the past year, pausing to press her palm to her head. Once everything stopped spinning, she would call for her taxi.

Hopefully that wouldn't take long.

He kept scanning the comings and goings of the donors. Leaning against his car with his arms crossed over his chest, he assessed each human with a scrutinizing eye. Why didn't more vampires take advantage of this perch? It seemed like a perfectly good place to snag a woozy little snack. Though it would be easier to accidentally kill one of these, given they'd only just donated. But they would be fun for other things as well.

Feeling a bit like a vulture, Ian waited for someone who stood out to him. When Delia exited the blood bank, it was impossible to miss her stagger and the way she simply didn't walk with the competence of someone with their full faculties. That must be his target. He observed her for a few more moments before putting on his most innocent, helpful smile and approaching her. When he plopped down on the bench next to her, he didn't say anything at first. He could have been just someone looking to take a load off. But then he spoke.

"Delia, yes? I'm Ian. I believe I offered you a ride home the other day. You look like you could use the help." He angled his body toward her, looking concerned. "I don't know how much that energy drink is going to help. Pity they require blood from everyone."
