Thread: Addy & Gulliver
Who: Addy Kistner and Gulliver Mills.
When: May 2nd. Late afternoon.
Where: Shadow Falls Mall.
What: A run in between friends!
Rating: Low!!

It was a very nice afternoon! A perfect afternoon for shopping, Addy thought! He needed to go to the bookstore, and also to find a pretty necklace to wear with his dress for prom! Something cheap from Claire's, of course, because he didn't have oodles of money to spend, and he was okay with cheap things!

His Mom was off in JC Penney's, and they had plans to meet up in an bit. So Addy was off on his own, in skinny jeans and a pink long top and ballet flats. His purse swung from his shoulder and he was grinning as he walked along.

Where to go first? The bookstore? Claire's? A peek in that clothing store he loved? Or for a slushie in the food court? Oh!

He let out a squeal when he saw a familiar face. "Hiiii Gulliver!" he called out, skipping up to the author-vampire.

Former author-vampire, Gulliver would have corrected Addy's thoughts, along with a pout and a whine. It was best not to bring it up at all. He had been to the mall for the very same reason as Addy. Shopping. Unlike Addy though, he wasn't excited about it. He hated shopping, trying on clothes in those cramped dressing rooms and having sales clerks talk to him and compliment him with those big false smiles. He couldn't trust them and Yuri was gone, vanished, and he couldn't find Julian. He had thought about bothering Tristan but didn't want to bother him. Now he wished that he had.

His trip had been a ridiculous failure. He needed clothes to teach in. Teacher clothes. He was thinking about button down shirts and ties, sweater vests with argyle print and slacks, smart clothes. So far he'd ended up with a hand juicer and an extensive home manicure set with fancy lotions supposedly containing Egyptian essential oils and a scrub with salt from the Dead Sea. He didn't really want the last bit but the sales person had been pushy and was attractive and he couldn't help but agree to anything she said. Nothing frightened him more than a really good looking woman.

He was nearing the end of his rope when Addy suddenly appeared out of no where and he smiled at him with a happy sigh. "Hello, Addy! What are you doing here? Isn't it prom?"

Addy's smile was bright. "I'm shopping, silly!" he replied with a giggle. He shook his head with a swish of his long pale pale blonde hair. "Prom is next week! On Friday! I can't wait!" He bounced on his toes a little bit. Addy was super duper excited about the prom. He loved dances, loves dressing up -and he had the best boyfriend in the whole wide world!

"What are you shopping for?" he asked the vampire curiously. Mostly, Addy avoided vampires. Because they could be very very bad, he had been told, and his parents told him to be very very careful. But Gulliver was so very nice, and so it wasn't a problem!

"I'm going to the bookstore and also to look for a necklace. A cheap one! What are you looking for?"

"Oh. You know. Things." He lifted the few bags he had and dropped them down by his side again. He was only slightly loathed to come clean with his real intentions. Addy might want to help him and then he'd end up teaching Children's lit next semester in sparkly pink belly shirts. Or something. He smiled weakly. "I have a new job," he explained. "I need new things to wear. I'm going to be working at the University for a semester," hopefully they would keep him beyond that, "and I don't think I can teach in t-shirts and jeans." Which was pretty much his entire wardrobe.

"I thought prom was this weekend. That's all I read these days. Even I'm getting excited for it and I'm not even going."

"A new job! What kind of job?" Addy asked, moments before Gulliver explained what that job was. "Oh that's so neat! You're going to be a teacher!" He thought that Gulliver would make a really good teacher, because he was supernice!

"Do you want help? I can help! I'm good with clothes," he said earnestly. He grinned at the prospect of helping someone dress themself!

"Nope, next weekend! Friday! Which is only five days away!"

Gulliver's smile turned nervous and horribly obvious as he looked Addy over. He couldn't really say no, not to Addy, it just seemed wrong. He was very bad at that word, at saying 'no'. It should come easier to him, he knew. He was a vampire, in Shadow Falls. He just couldn't do it. "Sure," he said finally, looking down at the bags in his hands and then at the shops around them. "If you want, I mean. You don't have to."

"Okay great! It will be fun!" Addy beamed up at him. "Where do you like to shop? Do you have any favourite stores?" the perky blonde asked him. He had favourite stores of his own, but they were probably not the places where Gulliver would want to shop! With the pretty girly things.

"We can get you some nice pants and some shirts and ties! And some sweaters, nice sweaters. Things like that." Gulliver seemed like a sweater person.

"I don't really have favorite shops, no." He shook his head, looking down the mall concourse as if it were a vast ocean he had to cross on a raft he'd made himself out of fallen trees and rope braided by vines. "I don't really...shop." He gestured to what he was wearing, his usual affair. He really wished Yuri was there to help him with this sort of thing.

"But yeah, that's what I was looking for. I really hate shopping."

Addy's jaw dropped as if Gulliver had said something shocking. Absolutely shocking. "But shopping is so much fun!" he said, looking at Gulliver's clothes. Which were fine for a casual day, but not for being a teacher at a university!

"Well I'm good at shopping," Addy promised. "So we'll get you some good stuff, promise." She guided him to one of the men's clothing stores - somewhere in between fancy and casual.

"Pants first," he decided, steering Gulliver over to racks of dress pants.

"Pants always seem easy." He answered as they disappeared into the store. Shopping with a friend was definitely better than going it alone. Already the clerks were leaving them alone, it was a welcomed change. "Until you actually get there." And then there were all kinds of cuts and styles and pleats and everything. It left him dizzy. "I'm a thirty-two. I think black is good, it goes with anything." And he didn't want to worry about matching before he left the house. "And maybe gray."

"No, no, pants are easy!" Addy assured him. "They're like... the backdrop of your outfit! They just have to look tidy and nice. It's the shirt that people really look at!" Unless you wore really funky pants, but that wouldn't do for teaching!

"Black is good and maybe gray too. And you should get a pair of kahki pants, because it's almost summer and you need something light coloured!" He started going through the rack. "You want a classic fit. And no pleats." He winkled his nose.

It was Gulliver's goal to make it through this shopping trip without having to try on any pants. He just didn't want to do that. If he had to come out and show them off Addy would be looking at him and there was nothing below the waist he was comfortable with most people looking at. Besides, what if Addy saw his scrawny legs from beneath the door? "You like clothes an awful lot, huh?" He asked as he shifted through the rack and took out a pair of black ones that were in his side, checking the material to see what they were made out of. He had to be comfortable. "You should be a personal shopper."

"Gosh, that would be fun, wouldn't it?" Addy laughed as he looked at the clothes. "But I already want to be a hairdresser and a make-up artist and maybe a clothing designer. That's already a lot!" Clearly his love was in fashion and style.

"So what size is your waist? And your inseam?" he asked, because flood pants were never a good look! Even if there was a flood!

"Thirty-two," Gulliver was a little shocked by all the things Addy listed off that he wanted to do with his life. "Thirty-two thirty. You really want to do all that?" He held the pants he'd chosen up to his waist. "When I was your age, I wanted to be an astronaut. Or a vet. I decided I wanted to be an author when I was in highschool, though. Eleventh grade. I remember the day as clearly as if it had happened yesterday."

"I really do!" Addy replied as he started pulling pants off the rack with the right measurements. A pair of plain, classic black ones. A pair of gray pants, a pair of kahki and then a pair on really nice pin stripped ones, because pin stripped was such a good look!

"Okay! These should do for now," he said as he handed them over. "You'd make a good vet. With all the cute animals!" he grinned. "But you make a really good author too. And I bet you'll be a great teacher!" He started over towards the racks of shirts, because now they needed to match!

"I decided against it when I realized I'd have to give animals shots and put them to sleep and things like that. I don't think it would be very reassuring to a client if their vet started crying when things got uncomfortable." Because he would definitely cry if he had to euthanize anything that was covered in fur.

Holding all the pants, including the one he's picked out for himself, he followed Addy dutifully towards the shirts. "I think there's a clothing designer in town now."

Addy made a sad face. "Yeah. That would be really really sad. The poor things." He would cry too if he had to do that. Or see that. Or even think about it for too long, so he pushed the thought out of his head before he started weeping in the clothing store.

"There is! I've been to the store, there's some near stuff!" Expensive though, a lot of it. Well, the stuff that wasn't vintage. "He's looking for models. I wish I could be one." But he couldn't let someone take his measurements. That was too close for comfort, too close to anyone finding out his secret.

"Why couldn't you? Models usually start around eighteen so you're not too far off." He'd learned that much from watching America's Next Top Model but he would never admit to that and would balk at how it got on his DVR should anyone ever notice it there. "I don't think I'd ever want to do that. All those people checking me out and looking at me...it makes me shiver just thinking about it."

"Oh, because he's a vampire," Addy fibbed, although that was partly true. "No offense or anything!" he quickly added. "My parents are just a bit overprotective." With good reason in a place like this! "Plus I wouldn't want someone touching me to get my measurements," he admitted.

"I like dressing up and having my picture taken, so I think I'd like it." He handed over a lilac coloured button up shirt, and then a gray one.

"Oh, I understand that." Gulliver nodded, pointing towards the lilac shift when he held it up. He liked that one. He took the clothes that were passed over without question. "And think about it, when you're a model you-well, there's not too much privacy." That was the nice way to put it. The polite way. He had to remember Addy was only sixteen.

"That's true," Addy said, scrunching up his face a little bit and nodding his head. He took a pin stripped vest from a rack. "This would go over the gray shirt, with the pin stripped pants," he said and then he went back to looking at shirts, finding a nice blue one.

"Addy, you are really making this easy for me." Gulliver was ridiculously glad, all of a sudden, that he'd run into Addy at all. It had only been a matter of moments and already he had an arms worth of clothes that he was sure would actually work. He wouldn't have been able to find this many things in a week on his own. "I'm so lucky to have run into you here."

"I like looking at clothes!" Addy assured him with a smile. "Any time you need help you can ask me." He didn't shop for boy clothes very often - except when he bought things for his dad for birthdays or Christmas - and it was fun. Not in the way that girl clothes were fun, though. He wouldn't want to wear them, but it was fun deciding on what would look good on others!

"Now you need some ties!"

"Ties, alright. I hate wearing ties." But they were definitely necessary for teacher clothes. The corners of his mouth twitched with a smile, thinking of Yuri, who was definitely a professional teacher. He always wore ties. He probably liked ties. He'd make fun of Gulliver in a tie, definitely, but somehow that only made him happier.

"We should get a lot. Funny, zany ties. I'll be teaching children's lit, so comical ties will probably be appropriate."

"Some fun ties are good, but you should have one or two nice ones too," Addy told him. "Incase you need to be dressed up for something!" Or incase he just wanted to look particularly nice!

Leading the way over to the table of ties, which were fanned out in a rainbow, all colours and patterns, and yes, some funny ones. "You should get this one." He picked up a dark purple one. "It would go with the light purple shirt."

"Isn't that a lot of purple?" It was a genuine question, not exactly a criticism. If Addy said it worked then he would definitely give it a try. It was a shame his class wouldn't be at the highschool, that way he could have Addy come to his office every day to make sure he looked alright before he let anyone else see him.

"Nope! Because it's still all up top," Addy assured him with a smile. "And you'll have dark pants on bottom, so it will manage." He pointed at the funny ties, of which there were a variety. With cartoon characters or silly faces and other things.

"Which ones do you like?"

Gulliver looked out over the ties and he laughed a little bit. There were lots of funny ones. He thought about getting one with the piano keys but when he saw one that looked like a crossword puzzle. "This one. And look, that one looks like a hot dog." Which made Gulliver laugh. Who wouldn't want a hot dog neck tie?

"That is pretty cute," Addy giggled. A hot dog tie! It was silly, but it would make his students laugh - and that was a good thing!

"Okay. Do you need to try this stuff on?" he asked, surveying the haul of clothes Gulliver had.

He definitely needed to try everything on but when Addy asked he just shook his head. "No. I'll just...try it all on at home." And he could bring back and return what he didn't like. It was a hassle but definitely his preferred way of doing things. "Besides, everything looks good, don't you think?"

"I think it will all look really good!" Addy promised him. "As long as it all fits!" If it fit, it would look good. He could picture in his head how all the pieces would look on Gulliver, and they would totally work.

"Are youy going to get them all? You should!"

"Do you need anything else? Shoes?" he asked as they went to the cash.
