The Gates


The Gates is a luxurious high class gated community located in Miami, Florida. There's just about any amenity you can think of is available here. But The Gates hold a secret too. For the past ten years, The Gates has been home to wayward travelers from other worlds and times.



No one knows how it started, or who is responsible, but in 2006, people started coming in from all over. The Gates were established as a place they could live and keep them separate from the general population. Not everyone is happy about the newcomers and there have been groups established to keep them in their place.



The mystery of the Gates has never been solved. People just have to start their lives anew here. There is no way home and while sometimes people do disappear, there appears to be no rhyme or reason to it. It just happens at the whim of whatever caused this.

Premise

Governor Denning of Hawaii is simply baffled by the influx of people from all over time and space. Even more baffling is the fact that no one can seem to leave the Hawaiian islands at all. It doesn't seem to make any sense but when someone swims out far enough, it's like there is a barrier around all of the islands. Paradise has suddenly become a prison. How will everyone get by? Even stranger still, planes can fly in and drop off supplies and such. And no one knows what happens to them after that.

New faces are popping up all over, and as beautiful as Hawaii is, sometimes the locals aren't so friendly. Many of them consider the land to be sacred and want newcomers to stay away. And what is with these new people anyway? Some of them just aren't normal...

The governor enlisted the 5-0 taskforce to be responsible for the newcomers, getting them settled in and helping them become productive members of the community. Some will be more helpful than others. Governor Denning purchased an apartment building in the Waikiki neighborhood on O'ahu so everyone has a place to stay, while the matter is sorted.

Investigations into what caused this phenomena are ongoing. But it looks like we've got to try to be one big Ohana.

Be prepared for the cruise of a lifetime…

It’s a day much like any other day, except that you receive a very special envelope in the mail. You can tell it’s special right away, and you feel like you’ve won some grand prize. This envelope may appear anywhere, at any time and you just can’t resist opening it.

The letter reads as follows:

Dear contestant,

We are thrilled to advise you of your all expense paid cruise on the high seas (and more). You have been carefully selected to participate in a new reality show. Sorry but no cancellations are allowed. This will be your life now. Do not be alarmed as we travel to other galaxies and even times.

Your every need and want (well, most of them) will be provided on our luxury ship. Make friends, have a fling or two, see how the other half lives. No, we really mean that…some of you might even have a double. Another you, from another world, where things aren’t exactly the same. No need to get cold feet, this is not optional and tickets are non-refundable. Before you reach the end of this letter, you will find yourself in your state room on board.

Thank you, and enjoy the cruise.

And when you look up from the letter, you find yourself in a state room on a cruise ship, whether you want to be or not. The letter was something of a port key. You may be faced with old loves, versions of your friends that aren't like you remember them, dead people, even enemies here but this is your life now.
