an original mutant rpg

For decades, the government tortured mutants. They experimented on them, they killed them and dissected them. They kept them chained in Willowbrook State School, or "Willowbrook Asylum" as it was more accurately called by inhabitants of Staten Island. Yes - what all the residents of New York City thought was a well-meaning school for mentally handicapped children was really a house of torture. That was until 26 years ago when the mutants rebelled and took over Willowbrook. Some mutants chose to stay and form the Centurions, a group dedicated to training mutants and remaining hidden away from humans - and to just live their lives. Others, however, left and formed the Syndicate, deciding that they could never forgive humans and instead wanted to take control of them - to take over the world.

They were not the only mutants, however, and so both sides sought to find others like them. Willowbrook finally became a true school after all, tutoring mutant students as future Centurions. For over 25 years now, they have been successful, but trouble is brewing. The Syndicate had also been recruiting, straight out of Willowbrook and under the Centurions' noses. They're closer than ever to being finally ready to take over the world.

The people of Earth, facing the impending and seemingly unstoppable destruction of their home, leave the planet in search of new pastures. Different groups settle in different places, mingling with the other life forms they find and being shaped by their environment.

Now, many years later, you find yourself as a member of the crew of the Phoenix, a huge spaceliner and home to a ragtag group of scavengers, pirates, and other such ne'er do wells. How did you get here? What is your purpose? What new adventures will you and your fellow crew members seek?

The Xavier Institute for Higher Learning is a prestigious private school that gains students following personal visits from the Headmaster or the staff. Its doors opened in 1979 and has since then been a beacon of educational inspiration for those students who are shown to be exceptionally…gifted.

After a tragic accident that took the lives of both Charles Xavier and Jean Grey, Scott Summers and Erik Lehnsherr take over as Headmaster and run the school in his stead. The will asked for just that one thing: that the school continue to run and protect those who needed it and to help those that could not help themselves.

Erik has run the school as the Headmaster ever since, assisting in the creation of the X-Men teams (so named in deference to their fallen leader) who protect mutants from those who would seek to harm them as well as protecting those who cannot protect themselves from threats both mutant and non-mutant. Though not all is as it seems.

Erik has a plan of his own and only those closest to him know of it and this school, and its students - some of whom are from broken homes and ripe for manipulating and twisting - are all just pawns on the grand chess board of Erik's end game.




The Institute game is a non-movie compliant, open world X-Men game in an AU setting where you have a number of factions that your character can join or move between. They can be an independent free spirit that works within the scope of the school just doing their own thing, an adult X-Man who tries to save the world and help out in their own little way or an adult who just wants to teach and help those kids. They could be a member of the Hellfire Club under the unscrupulous Sebastian Shaw, a student just trying to get by or a member of Magneto's hand-picked, subversive team. The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants doesn't exist - overtly - in this game. Yet

The Fables were created by the kindness and hopes of mankind lived in relative peace thanks to the careful guidance of Mother Goose and her dear King Cole. The positive outlooks that kept the shadows at bay in the seemingly endless nights were what kept the people of Fableton in existence. The days of wonder and excitement were soon to be replaced by the horrors that come with the dark side of human nature. Lies. Deceit. Pain and suffering. The fears of what is hidden in the darkness birthed something that not even Mother Goose herself was able to prepare for. These dark thoughts, based upon the instinctual habits human had to ensure self-preservation gave way to the one fear above all- something that could be causing this hate and pain. The Horned Beast, a common figure throughout cultures around the world began taking the swirling, sometimes fleeting thoughts to build his own army. His eyes were set on expansion and the decimation of the Fables.

The Darkness swept across Fableton and destroyed all that was in their path. In a last-ditch effort, Mother Goose placed a spell to save her children and trap the Darkness in Fableton with the hopes that they would not have the ability to escape. After more than a century of safety, cracks in her spell coupled with the tragedies of wars, disease and destruction has allowed the Horned Beast to escape. With eyes set on Newport, the Darkness walk among the citizens, hidden from the Fables who have long forgotten the horrors they lived by. The goal is simple: kill each Fable outside of the spell’s reach before they are able to sense the danger that has arrived. Can Mother Goose and King Cole awaken their children or are the Fables doomed to be erased from existence for good?
