Sometimes the world you create on the page seems more friendly and alive than the world you actually live in.

Since the dawn of time, storytellers have enchanted audiences with their words. But there is an even rarer gift. There are those who, by reading out loud, can bring characters to life. Out of books and into our world. Most of these people prefer to keep their skills a secret but some do not even know this gift is theirs, until it is too late.

You know how your story begins, do you know how it ends?

Have you ever invested weeks, months, or perhaps years into character development only for a game to suddenly lose interest? For things to go awry and you choose to part ways? Are you sitting in a game that you've lost interest in simply because you don't wish to lose all that character development?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then Spinning Compass is for you!

We at Spinning Compass allow character development from any game. From Insane Journal? Approved! From Live Journal? Approved! From Dreamwidth? Approved! It doesn't matter what journal format they come from, your character will be approved!

We also accept Original Characters, and any canon fandom characters.

Character approval pending application acceptability.

Books are adventure! They contain murder and mayhem and passion. They love anyone who opens them.

Almost thirty years ago, Harry Potter defeated the Dark Lord. In the years leading up to that fateful day, he and his friends were forced to grow up too quickly and miss out on what it truly means to be a teenager. Thanks to their heroic actions, the children of the Potter generation can all go to school and grow up on schedule.

It's 2027. Things at Hogwarts are (relatively) normal. Wizarding technology is starting to develop. Tensions, in general, are low. Since they don't have to fear for their lives, the students of Hogwarts create their own drama instead, just like any normal group of hormonally-charged teenagers that live in close quarters for the majority of the year.

QUISQUIS is a next generation, canon compliant game set during the 2027-2028 school year. The game focuses on character relationships and development instead of an overarching plot, with daily events and lottery scenes to keep things interesting. But remember: although your characters won't be fighting for their lives in this game, that doesn't mean their time at Hogwarts will be lacking in dramatics!

There comes a time in every young man and you woman's life when they have to ask themselves once of two questions. For the less fortunate among us, that question is what would they be willing to sacrifice to get one of the best educations in the country? Would they willingly give up their dignity? Their freedom? Their body? And for those who are considered to be amongst the country's elite, the 1% as they are often called, they have to ask themselves what they would do if they were given near absolute power? Would they lord it over others like the old nobles did? Or would they treat those considered beneath them as equals?

Crescent Cove, Maine. A coastal, maritime city with hundreds of years of history, established industry and a typical, if isolated, east coast city. Beneath its outwardly normal appearance, though, it harbors dark secrets.

The real city is the one seen in the corner of your eye, the momentary reflection in the mirror, the feeling of being watched on a lonely street. Founded by witches fleeing the horrors of the Salem witch trials in the 17th century, the city has always been a beacon for the supernatural. Today, vampires, werewolves, witches and other things without names live, work, plot and scheme alongside each other, not always aware of the other but always just under the notice of the mortal world. On the fringes, mortal hunters stalk the magical and the monstrous relentlessly, driven by obsessions both pure and tainted. Greater powers, still, influence events, and an impending feeling of fate hangs over the old buildings and creaking docks of the city.

Bound Secrets is a play-by-journal roleplaying game (RPG), with an urban-fantasy setting. It features daily activity, original storylines and an open-world format. We look for quality plotting, intelligent characterization and creativity in our players, ones who are willing to help build a fun, enjoyable story and community through active participation and friendly interaction. The game is managed by mods with decades of collective experience, and receives frequent updates in terms of species on offer, locations, plotlines and more.

We always welcome new players - check out the information provided, and if it sounds like something you’d enjoy, fire off an application or contact one of the mods if you have any questions.
