Cathair hadn't slept too badly considering the ruckus going on in the woods. The screaming monkeys had woken him, as well, as the bloody wolves and just about every noise loud enough.
Until the clawing and thumping at his door started just before dawn. Then he was awake, armed with a few knives and his slingshot. Not that expected to be able to do much against anything around here with such crude weapons. He might have to break down and make some very crude nail bombs. Something with a bit more punch.
The noises tapered off, changing to familiar cries of pain. Eden. He'd figured it was her, but now he knew. Then, there was nothing. He waited for a few more moments, taking the knife with him as he carefully opened the door.
And there she was, completely naked and filthy, curled up on his stoop. Cathair debated for a second on whether it was wise to bring her in, but he couldn't very well leave her like that either. Setting the knife aside, he opened the door all the way and knelt down, gathering her up into his arms. His head was still aching, but he'd carried her before.
So long as she didn't wake up and try to eat him. Or whatever else mad thing that could happen.
