Deirdre Gwyneth McCrery ([info]naturallygwyn) wrote in [info]inpoormerit,
"Blimey, you didn't?" Gwyn's eyes went wide with a mixture of surprise and admiration. "I saw those ruddy things. Mad, they were. Completely. I'm glad you were able to get back all right-- all things considered, of course."

She took his hand and shook it with a firm handshake of her own. Her da- much to her mam's chagrin- had always impressed upon her the importance of having a strong handshake. It was sometimes the most lingering impression most people got. He had called it the 'second chance to make a first impression.' But she wasn't going to think about her da and home and the fact that she felt half-mad from missing them.

Instead, she offered Cooper a slight smile, and replied, "Deirdre McCrery. My friends call me Gwyn, though, so I 'spose you could if you want. I've only had a chance to meet one bloke, Colin. Said he was taken too. They got me while I was out hiking, the blighters. I 'spose it's good yer wife's here, though, for all that's worth."

She lowered her hand back to her side, continuing to worry at her finger now that it was free again. "I've not seen any, but I got a bit distracted by that yon church. I feel terrible, but I can only pray that it was natural causes that made it so. Bothers me, seein' it burned so."
