"Been out that way often? The Greenies are just beyond there, aren't they?" Laken asked actually indulging in the conversation a little bit. For once it was a genuine thing, he wanted to know. It wasn't exactly a secret that Charlie had worked with dragons. The finer details, of course Laken didn't quite know the man's entire work history. Though, if he was honesty he probably could get some kind of file that explained it all. Maybe it there was a little bit of reluctance to actually find out if there was that level of record keeping going on. Sometimes a little ignorance helped, if only because it was one less thing he had to lie about knowing or not knowing for that matter. Though his intentions of the question were actually genuine, there was a part of him that actually did want to know how far this fight went for magical creatures. Dragons were a given, house elves seemed to be on the table as well given their previous conversation, but the wolves...well...it wasn't that he wholly doubted Charlie. It was that he completely doubted the establishment, and now fully realized the lengths they'd go to. Who knew if this man was being controlled? Or had brokered some kind of deal to keep his family safe. Shit happened to even the strongest of people. Laken was sure that he was wrong about that dark suspicion, but he had to make sure. There was no room left in this world for chance. At least not for him. That ended when he was in Finland. "Aye, pretty much nailed it there." he agreed. "Be nice if I could take you out there some day...you know when it's safe." while not as much venom, because he was far too practiced by now, but there was an emphasis on the word that he would have to see if Charlie picked up on. He could still backpedal if he had to, but he let it hang there for a moment.
"I hope that they would. Or at least get some kind of compensation otherwise. I wonder about that sometimes with everyone being required to be here and all." His tone was light, but in all honesty, Laken had wondered about that a great deal on nights when he couldn't seem to sleep. "But I have a feeling that it will be a while before anything is deemed safe like that." he noted knowing that his words could be taken either way. Though, in truth, it probably could be taken a little more to the anti-government side of things, even by a hair. Then again, only idiots up in their ivory towers thought that everything was put right starting now. And thank fuck Charlie was not one of those idiots. Laken had enough of that at the gala for a long while.
Laken shrugged a little bit. "The work is interesting enough, but it's mostly clerical. It puts a decent roof over my head so I suppose I should be thankful in that." Laken hated that oh so practiced response. It probably even showed a little in his tone, though, Laken could always lie and chalk it up to the run, or whatever else he could think of on the fly if he didn't get the response he wanted. However, what came next was calculated. "I know your brother. We sometimes share a table at lunch time." yes they weren't the best of friends or anything, but Percy Weasely was defiantly someone on Laken's radar. For the better, he hoped at least, because the man played a very, very good game, though Charlie confirmed a few things there, by the vague language. If only because he was so used to it himself. Spy work was guessing until it wasn't. And he was very much hoping this wasn't something he was wrong about. "I respect the work he does." Laken said boldly, leaving it out there. Take it as he will, but Laken was seriously hoping Charlie was as smart of a man as he was counting on.
