RP: Another Loss Characters: Lily Time/Date: Late morning, October 31 Location: lobby, near the directory Warnings/Rating: None Summary: The captives take another blow? Status: Closed
She'd noticed the vials of Wolfsbane that morning (along with a faint, lingering headache), and she'd consulted with Mercy. They'd checked his room, but it was empty. The books were back in the library, and Lily found the remainder of the potions things in her closet. So of course she'd let Remus and Tristan know; she reasoned that anyone else could find out on their own.
After breakfast, she found the latest copy of their hand-copied directory to compare to the current one in the lobby. Several people were missing, though some of them she was aware of -- like Lucky -- and some she hadn't been aware of. There were more being taken away than added, and Lily wondered what that was saying.
Were they thinning the herd? Would some of them come back? Was this the fun new game for their kidnappers -- randomly taking people away and dropping them back in later?
Or had they been sent back? Severus, she knew, had nothing to go back to but a grave. It was ... depressing to think about it. But then, a relatively quick death might be preferable to whatever tortures their captors had lined up.
One pale fingertip traced where Sev's name had been in the book before she closed it and turned away. Her arms crossed over her chest to hug herself as she dropped her head slightly. She drew a few slow, steadying breaths before she had herself under control. Not completely, and she knew she'd end up having a cry about it later, but right now ... she had to worry about more practical things than simply missing her friend. With no one left to make the potion, she and Tristan had to learn ... and they had three months to do it in.
And if they couldn't? What then?
Though if people kept vanishing at this rate, maybe there wouldn't be anyone left here in three months. Maybe it wouldn't matter in the end. But maybe it would.
Crossing to one of the windows in the lobby, Lily gazed out. The day was warm; she could feel that even through the glass. It was cloudy and she reasoned the rain would be returning later that day. Staring out toward the jungle, Lily let her mind wander. She was aware of the tears when they started to tumble down her cheeks, but she did nothing to stop them.
