RP: Bullets
Characters: Jaime, Mal, Jayne
Time/Date: Evening, October 26
Location: Mal & Jaime's room
Warnings/Rating: ... idk
Summary: Jayne finds something Mal might want
Status: Complete

It had been a thing of chance. He'd been digging through a milk crate of rubber rats in the Halloween store when he'd felt the edge of the box. Not a big box, but a box he recognized all the same. Lifting out the box, he flipped it open and peered in before plucking free one of the bullets. He knew immediately it wasn't one of his, but he recognized it all the same.

It belonged to one of Mal's guns. But plenty of people had been finding ammunition in queer places; maybe someone'd find some that fit his pieces eventually.

Jayne pulled out his device, intending to send Mal a message before he got a better idea. He hadn't seen the captain really since he'd been back, and it might be fun to try to interrupt his alone time with that slip of a girl he was with. Hell, it wasn't like he had anything better to do, right?

With a grin, Jayne sauntered out of the store. He jogged through the rain, his heavy boots sending up sprays of mud. Once he reached the hotel, he shed his boots inside the door on the mat that had been set aside for them. He'd caught a little bit of hell from one of the redheads earlier for tracking in mud and he wasn't inclined to have it thrown back at him again.

In socked feet (the left one had a hole, he noticed; he should get a new pair), Jayne trotted up the stairs to the second floor hall. Making his way down toward Mal and Jaime's room, he rapped on the door to see who was going to answer it.

Mal couldn't even imagine who was knocking on their door. All right, there were a few people he wouldn't be surprised to see if they were looking for Jaime, but it was getting late and the network seemed to be the quick easy way people communicated.

Of course, it was his job to answer the door too, even though he was sure it wasn't for him. When he pulled it open, he was glad he hadn't made too much of a fuss about it. He was pretty sure Jayne wasn't looking for Jaime, after all.

"Jayne," he greeted curiously, giving the other male a nod. "You ain't lost, are ya?"

"Might be. I was lookin' for the captain of Serenity. Not sure I know who that is anymore," he said. There was an edge of teasing to his voice, but it was a jab at Mal because ... well, he couldn't help but jab at Mal. Especially when Mal was bedding a girl half his age.

Jayne leaned slightly to the side, trying to peer past Mal.

"Hi, Jayne," Jaime called from the bed. She'd heard his voice and assumed he was trying to look in. "I'm not naked, if that's what you're looking for," she added with a little grin. "And Mal's not going anywhere tonight, if that's what you were after."

Jayne snorted. "You lettin' that little slip of a thin' order you around now?" he said before he shook his head and presented Mal with the box of bullets. "They ain't gonna fit either o' the ones I got but they look like they'd fit yours."

He graced the merc with an unimpressed look as he shifted his weight, putting himself where Jayne was trying to peer.

"Sounds to me like she was givin' you orders," Mal decided. While that may have been a stretch or downright untrue, he thought trying to figure it out might confuse Jayne.

He eyed the box of bullets with a bit of surprise before he reached out to take them. He opened the box and made a vague noise that might have been appreciative. "Well now. If I pretend you weren't tryin' to get under my skin there, this was downright considerate of you. Thank you, Jayne."

It felt good to have bullets, even if he doubted it meant anything good for them.

Jayne's brow furrowed. Giving him ...? "She weren't," he protested. "She said you ... weren't ..." The furrow deepened as he tried to work out how that could possibly be construed as Jaime giving Jayne orders.

"You need your ears checked," he decided before he nodded. Clearly, he'd come out top of that argument. Jayne one, Mal zero.

"Well, figure if it's a choice 'tween holdin' onto ammo ain't gonna fit my gun an' given it to someone who can occasionally hit somethin' when he shoots, guess I'll go that way. Might save my tail or somethin'."

"Goodnight, Jayne," Jaime called from the bed. She was highly disinclined for Jayne to hang around long enough to put Mal into a grouchy mood. It sounded like he'd accomplished whatever he'd come here for.

Jayne lifted his brows as if to say 'see what I mean?' to Mal before he shifted his weight to a more comfortable stance. "Maybe I want to chat a little more?" he called back to her.

"Might save your tail," Mal agreed before arching his brows and smirking lightly as he added, "might shoot your tail too while I'm occasionally hittin' somethin'."

Of course he had no plans on shooting Jayne -- not on purpose, anyway. He did appreciate the other male sharing the bullets, even if he knew it was only because they hadn't fit Jayne's gun. He assumed there were bullets out there that would fit, though. Seemed they were just hidden in weird places.

"Now, if you were in my place and had the choice between chattin' with you and goin' to bed with a beautiful woman, I think I know what you'd pick so ... g'night, Jayne," he agreed. Anyway, he figured Jayne didn't actually want to stand around and chat and only brought it up because Jaime was trying to get rid of him.

Maybe he should have gone along with it to see what Jayne would try to chat about, though.

Jayne smirked, but it wasn't like it was outside the realm of possibility. On the outer edge of it, sure, but outside of it completely? No. Mal would shoot him if he had to.

Hell, he'd almost let him die on the ship once. 'course he'd shoot him. Jayne still wasn't completely convinced that Mal wouldn't honestly have just let him die that day, and generally speaking, Jayne tried not to push his buttons in such a way that he wound up there again.

Granted, they weren't on Serenity, but that didn't mean Mal wouldn't find a way to off him anyway.

"Wouldn't say she's ... she hits though, don't she? Guess I'd better not be insultin' her looks where she can hear me," he said, raising his voice enough for Jaime to hear.

"Right, well, guess I got what I came here for. So, goodnight," he said before he nodded and turned away. That would've been more fun if Jaime had answered the door. Still, it was something to break up the monotony.

Maybe Faye was still up ... with that thought in mind, Jayne headed off to see if that was the case.

Jaime snorted. "Remind me to hit him next time I see him," she said before she snuggled back under the covers, waiting for Mal to rejoin her.

Mal rolled his eyes, shaking his head with a light smirk as he closed the door after saying goodnight to Jayne. That had been interesting and profitable, for the most part. Now he could shoot things and in his book, that was an improvement over ... not being able to shoot things.

"You really need a reminder? Seems like somethin' that should just be standard in your day," he replied as he moved back to their bed, setting the box of bullets on the nightstand before he stripped out of his shirt. "See Jayne; hit him. Good rule for you to live by."

He outstretched his arm towards her invitingly once he was settled back in their bed and then admitted, "He did bring me bullets, though. Think I should write him a thank you note?"

Tomorrow he'd have to go outside and make sure the bullets actually worked. That would be fun.

"Yes, but I usually like to have a reason to hit someone before I slug them," Jaime offered as she snuggled up against Mal's side, resting her head on his chest and her arm around his middle.

"Though maybe 'it's Jayne' is reason enough," she mused thoughtfully before she closed her eyes.

"Could he read a thank you note?" she asked, brows lifting slightly before she tilted her head to press a kiss against Mal's jaw. "I mean, most apes can't actually read, right? And if he's a man-ape gone wrong thing like Simon says he is ..." she nodded a little before resettling. "But no, I think him interrupting our evening is thanks enough for him," Jaime decided as she stifled a yawn against Mal's chest.

It was sleepy time, she was pretty sure.

He chuckled, "Could draw him a nice picture, I s'pose, but you're right. Reckon he was pleased to interrupt."

Mal thought Jayne had probably been a little disappointed that he hadn't interrupted anything else except for them getting ready for bed. He gave Jaime a brief squeeze before he sighed and relaxed some, letting his eyes drift closed.

"You fallin' asleep?" He asked in a murmur; he didn't think he would take much effort on his part to fall asleep and he tried and failed to hold back a yawn of his own.

"Yup. I'll make it up to you tomorrow morning," she promised him with a little smile as she ran her hand teasingly down his middle to brush a bit lower. She would've been up for a bit more that night, but ... well, she was sleepy now and she kind of liked the idea of waking him up that way.

"Unless you have some objection to that? I mean, I can always just go downstairs and have breakfast with Lily and wait for you to wander down ..."

Jaime grinned as she settled herself back against him, even if she knew she'd end up rolling away from him at some point during the night. She usually woke up separated from him, though the exact process was a mystery to her.

He grunted faintly as her teasing hand wandered. It hardly seemed fair to grope him at the same time she was telling him she was going to sleep. He was tired enough that he wasn't going to protest too much though, especially with the promise of a nice wake up in the morning.

"Suppose I ain't got any objections this time," he agreed with a light smirk, "no need for you to wander off in the morning."

Mal tilted his head to kiss her hair before settling back against the bed.
