RP: Sense of Stone
Characters: Aang, Lily
Time/Date: Early Afternoon on October 24th
Location: Lily's Room
Warnings/Rating: None
Summary: Aang goes to visit Lily to ask about the stones that were found.
Status: Private, ongoing

Aang had logged off the network and made his way all the way down to the second floor from his fifth floor room. Lily said she had some stones she wanted to know about, and he thought that since he seemed to have control of his Earthbending today, he would see if he could help. Also, he had the sketch of the island and mapping that he had done.

He also brought with him that weird communications device that fit in his hand. He had discovered it seemed to create images, and so he had taken it flying with him when his Airbending was functional.

The boy stepped up at the door to Lily's room, reached out, and rapped a few times at the door. This would not take too long, the boy had reasoned, provided his Earthbending functioned properly today.

Since she'd had warning of a guest coming to visit, she'd made sure the sitting area was clean enough and didn't have any tell-tale ... well, anything scattered around. But to be fair, it wasn't as though she and Balthazar had actually really made it past the bedroom part of their room.

Eventually they'd likely hit every spot in the room, but that was neither here nor there.

The sitting area was tidy, and she'd brought out the stones that she hadn't already handed off to Severus. She wasn't sure how Aang's earth-skill worked, but she supposed she'd find out and let him do as he would with the rocks.

When she heard the knocking on the door, she glanced around once more before drawing it open. "Hello," she greeted him quietly, stepping back to let him in.

Aang stepped into the room. He likely would not have recognized any of the signs anyway. He was only thirteen years old. Or a hundred and thirteen, depending on how you looked at it. "Hi there, Lily. Hope this isn't a bad time." He glanced around the room. It was bigger than his single room, it appeared. Not that he was complaining about that though. He did not require a whole lot of space.

"Oh, I brought the map I told you I was working on. And this thing takes images, so I numbered them on the map. I don't know if that can help, but it seemed like a good idea at the time." The boy offered a rolled up piece of paper with a sketch of the island and his phone towards Lily. "I don't know if you can put that on the network or not, but it might be helpful." The images would mostly be bird's eye views of the island, with buildings and such marked on it.

"So, where are the stones? I don't know if I can tell anything magical about them, but I should be able to tell you if they've been damaged or altered from what they should be."

She nodded as she accepted the map, glancing at it curiously. Well, it would certainly prove interesting to those who could do something with it, she supposed. "I can show you how to put up the pictures, if you wanted. It's fairly easy, though it took me a while to figure it out." She imagined it would take anyone not technologically inclined a while to work out transferring photos to the network.

Shaking her head a little, she gestured to where she had the stones resting on one of the desks. "We use them in potions. They have magical qualities, but aren't ... strictly speaking, magical themselves," she said. It was a fine line and sort of a nit-picky distinction, but she didn't want him to worry about discerning the magical ability of the stones.

"I honestly don't think they could find a way to tamper with them, but I'm mostly ... concerned with knowing if they're actual moonstone and not just very clever replicas. Severus is doing his own bit of testing on them, but better to have more than one opinion."

If the stones were fine, which she imagined they were, then she thought it stood to reason there were other potion ingredients scattered around. If Jaime was feeling up to it later, she'd ask the girl to see what she could find.

"That would be good, though I should look at the stones first." Aang walked over towards the stones and looked at the curiously. "I would not put anything past them. It isn't a bad idea to be cautious, just in case. I don't know what would happen with bad potion ingredients, but I'm guessing that the answer wouldn't be a good one."

The boy then took a couple steps back and shifted his weight onto his back leg, leaning back into it just a little bit. He firmly thrust his arms out with his palms facing the stones, causing them to levitate a few inches into the air, the stance a stark contrast from the free flowing Airbending he had done before. As he did so, he focused on the stones he was levitating, bending the earth within them to determine if there was anything out of place with the stones. He was not sure if he would find anything strange with them, but it seemed prudent to check.

"Depends on the potion, but ... Severus would be able to tell if they were off when he tried to make one." Granted, some of them might well sludge up as a warning sign, but some might look just fine upon completion and simply ... not act the way they were supposed to. Still, she had faith in him.

She watched curiously, her head tipped to one side. Learning about other people's magic was honestly one of the few upshots of being here. It really was fascinating to watch and discuss various theories and applications of magic, and to find the similarities between spells and their uses.

Not that Lily was aware, but the stones were moonstone, pure and untampered with. They had simply been planted, out of place in a jungle island.

Aang turned the stone around in the air, looking for anything he couldn't affect with his bending and trying to find anything that was not naturally occuring. He did not respond to Lily's comment about Severus being able to tell when he tried to make a potion, as he was concentrating on the stone mostly. After a minute or so, the boy lowered his arms slowly, which corresponded with the stones floating gently back to the desk and settling there.

"I can't find anything that isn't naturally occuring there. Those are pure stone there." Aang felt pretty confident about that. The basics of Earthbending meant you learned to feel very quickly if something was wrong with the stone you were using. "That isn't to say that it is of excellent quality for a potion. I wouldn't know how to tell that, but I can tell you that it is all stone there. It is a very odd stone, compared to what I usually work with when I Earthbend. You called it moonstone?"

"Mhmm," she agreed to his question. She was pleased to hear there didn't appear to be anything wrong with it, and she decided Jaime was very definitely not going to like her very much when Lily finally got through with the list of things she hoped to find.

"I don't think ... it's naturally occurring here though," Lily admitted, which went a fair way toward explaining why Tyler had thought they looked planted. They likely were.

"Do you have anything like that in your village? Or any of the other tribe villages?"

"Moonstone?" Aang asked, scratching his shaved head in thought. "Well, Sokka got a sword made out of a meteorite when he went to train with a master swordsman. They exist, but they aren't specific to any of the tribal villages. They are rare, but when they fall, it is sort of random where they end up falling."

"I don't know that moonstone is naturally occuring anywhere, unless it is in your world? Or does it naturally fall from the moon where you are from and the name is just moonstone?" Aang had that sudden realization that the name might not be completely literal, and thought he should maybe check.

Lily's brow furrowed as he started to talk about moonstone falling form teh sky, and she shook her head slightly. "Ours come from mines, I believe." Though where they came from before that, she wasn't completely sure. "I believe they're simply naturally occurring in nature. Like diamonds and other precious stones."

It was almost shameful how little she actually knew about the origins of so many of the ingredients she used daily. How much she took for granted. But she was fairly certain they were mined, and then ... powdered for potions.

"It doesn't ... fall from the moon though. They just call it moonstone because of the way it reflects light back and shimmers like it does."

"Oh, I thought you meant it fell from space by the name. We do have a lot of different types of stones though. We have a few that are shiny, too. I don't really know what they're called though. It wasn't a subject I studied a lot. We do use precious metals for our currency though. Gold, silver, and copper are what we use." Aang raised both his palms up in a sheepish little shrug. "I guess I shouldn't assume things just based on the name though." He was only biologically a thirteen year old kid, so he was used to making these mistakes.

"So, how do you put images on the network exactly?" the boy asked, glancing around the room as if glancing around the room would help. "Or is there an instruction manual for it somewhere?"

"I'm sure there is one," Lily murmured. "Or was one, at any rate, when these were new. I'm not sure our captors were inclined to share them with us. But here," she said as she crossed over to fetch her own device. She showed him how to access the gallery through the camera function, and how to use the menu to send one to the network, or how to select more than one to post in the same post.

"Most of the time, anything you'll want to do with the device can be found on one of the menus," she said. "Though I think accessing them's a little different on each type of device."

She smiled lightly as she regarded him, wondering if her lesson had made any sense at all to him.

Aang was nothing if not a quick study. He had to be in his line of work. However, this technology was proving to be something he would have to work at. "Right, so these little menus here are where to find things. That should be easy enough, I hope." It seemed easy enough.

"Anyway, I should get going. I hope the moonstones are helpful." The boy took a few steps back. "Thanks for the lesson," he added to the woman. Now it was only a question of how much Aang would manage to break the technology before he fully got it down.

"Thank you for your help," Lily promptly replied, a soft smile on her lips.

That had been useful, and she honestly thought if everyone could learn to work together like this, they probably could make a good attempt at leaving this place.

It was something to think about; maybe she'd run it by Jaime and Tyler and then ask around and see what everyone thought of it.

"I'll see you later," Lily added as she showed him to the door, simply because it was more polite than simply letting him find his own way out.
