Summary: Simon checks out his new infirmary
Status: Complete
Simon had of course gone to see River first thing yesterday to ensure she was alive and well and intact and ... well, at least as sane as she'd been prior to the relocation and disaster. He wondered if she'd been allowed to know they were still alive, but ... well, that would have spoiled the surprise, wouldn't it have? However their captors managed to interfere with people's abilities, they'd surely managed to keep the information from her.
After checking on her, he'd started exploring. He'd found the infirmary after dinner and was pleased to see it was an actual, proper infirmary rather than a room. Unfortunately, nothing was where it should have been. It was as though they'd deliberately arranged things at cross-purposes. Drugs he'd rarely need were in prominent location whereas simple things like pain-killers were buried and hidden. It was completely ridiculous and would need an overhaul, but it wasn't something he'd wanted to start on so late.
On his way out, he'd bumped into one of the other medical professionals -- a veterinarian rather than a doctor, but someone who still had an idea of how a lab should look. She'd agreed to meet him tomorrow to help overhaul his, and he thought he'd be glad for the help of someone who knew what was what.
Now, standing in the center of the infirmary, Simon looked around slowly. He supposed the easiest way to start was to take everything out of the drawers and cabinets and place them in a central location, and then restock them from there. Simon sighed, and started to unload everything.
When Mercy came in, he offered her a nod and explained what he was up to.
Mercedes shook her head slightly. "So you think it was deliberate? They knew how you had the old place, right?"
"They knew," Simon agreed as he carted a basket of vials to the rolling table he was currently storing everything on. "They just ..." He gestured with his free hand before he set the basket down. "I don't know. I suppose I'd rather have the minor inconveniences than the videos that heavily imply my sister is dead."
"Ouch," Mercy said softly. "Suppose I'm lucky. I don't have anyone from home, and I haven't exactly bonded with anyone here. Not really, anyway," she amended before she shrugged. "But what kind of relationship can you really form in two, three weeks?"
Simon chuckled and shrugged. "Depends on the person, I guess. Chemistry and clicking and all that. I ..." he hesitated. "I had someone here, but ..." He shook his head. "She's gone. I hope she's home, back with the ship." Because any other thought was just ... not worth considering. Since she hadn't shown back up here yet, and most of the others had, he had to assume she wasn't going to. "Which isn't at all relevant to your point," he added with an awkward smile. "Since I knew her before here."
Mercy grinned anyway as she checked the drawers and started to empty them out. "Is that a ... door?" She gestured toward what was very obviously a door, though it looked as though it led to the outside.
Simon grinned. "Well, if it looks like a door ..."
"And quacks like a door?"
He laughed softly before he brushed his hands off and started toward it. Drawing it open, he peered into the grey day. "Side entrance, I guess. Convenient, if someone gets injured outside."
"Do you gamble? We could bet if the first injury comes from inside or outside."
Simon shook his head. "No bet on that. It'll be outside. The first injury. The first need for other attention will come from inside though. Sleeping pills, most likely, or aspirin."
Mercy tipped her head back as she laughed softly. "Fair enough." She watched as Simon stepped away from the open door, and she wanted to make a bet as to where the first visitor would come in -- through the hotel, or through the now-open outdoor entrance. Given that most people were still exploring, she was certain there'd be visitors. Keeping an ear out for it, Mercy continued to empty drawers and cabinets. Once everything was empty, she listened as Simon dictated the new layout, and set about establishing the order with him.
