RP: Thank God!
Characters: Severus, poking Mercy, if she wakes up any time soon...
Time/Date: Oct. 22, morning
Location: Their suite
Warnings/Rating: Sev being a sullen arse
Summary: Someone is relieved, even if the other someone is still asleep
Status: Complete

"Sev! Sev, they aren't dead! Check her room!"

Severus rolled over with a groan at hearing the words. Lily's voice -- Lily's excited voice -- but he was sure it was all a dream. A pleasant dream, no doubt, but a dream, nonetheless. They couldn't be back. They were dead. There was no way they could have survived. No way.

And yet ... and yet, something akin to hope rose up in his chest, regardless, because ... well, he felt a bit groggy, and he had a headache, and those two things usually went hand-in-hand with having been drugged the night before. So that meant their captors had been in his room, but it might all have been a ruse.

They might have returned Blake, whole and unharmed, but not Mercy, and they might have drugged him just to give him a bit of false hope. But there was only one way to find out. He pushed himself up to sitting with another groan, both wanting to check and not wanting to get his hopes up. He was still fully dressed from when he'd gone to bed two days before, since he hadn't bothered to shower or change or get out of bed at all, other than to have a cup of tea and use the loo. Yes, he'd promised Lily that he would try to eat, and he had tried, but he couldn't stomach a bite.

When he exited his bedroom, Severus froze. The desk he'd overturned had been righted, and not one, but two laptops sat atop. One dented, one not. His mobile still lay shattered on the floor, however, and he pulled his wand. "Reparo," he whispered, and the thing repaired itself, before he summoned it to his hand.

But he still wasn't convinced. So he turned toward what would have been Mercy's room. "Homenum revelio," he said, and the door glowed briefly yellow, before the light faded. So there was someone in there, even if it wasn't necessarily Mercy.

Taking a deep, he made his way to the door and reached for the knob with a shaking hand. He swallowed, turned the knob, and gently opened the door. And there she was. Severus inhaled a shuddering breath and pressed his hand to his mouth, as tears once more sprang to his eyes. She was alive. Granted, this might not even be his Mercy. It might have been another Mercy entirely, who didn't know him, but he was still immensely relieved to see the rise and fall of her chest.

After watching her for a few seconds, he backed out of the room then, closing the door quietly behind him. Then he went back to his own room for some clean clothes, followed by the loo, to shower and shave. For some reason, looking presentable had suddenly become important again, even if food still was not high on his list of priorities.

There were dreams that left vague impressions on her sleepy mind. There was motion, white coats, the prick of something in the bend of her elbow. There was darkness and oblivion and there were pounding noises. A voice she thought she should know, but it was distant.

There was the roar of a shower, but it was in a strange place in relation to where it should have been. It was ... toward the back of her bed rather than the front. Or she was turned around in her bed.

She drifted again, and when she came fully awake, it seemed ... quiet. Her head was throbbing though, and the area behind her eyes felt tight. Her throat was dry, and she sighed as she sat up very slowly.

Mercy carefully eased out of bed, swaying when she was on her feet. She rested a hand on her temple and groaned before she looked around. She made a guess as to which door led where, and she managed to find the bathroom on the first try. She glanced down past the sinks to the other door and felt a queer pang. Severus should be in there. If he hadn't ... been torn up by a bear. She wondered, a little morbidly, if he'd been killed in the room or if he'd been outside trying to fend them off.

Maybe she'd go look after she finished exploring. She peeked into the bathroom and then into the shower area. She started out of the shower room before she paused and turned back. The shower was wet. There were spots of water along the edge of the tub, and the curtain bore evidence that the shower had been used.

She'd heard someone in the shower, hadn't she? In her drugged, sleep-daze? She thought about taking the long way around through the suite, but funny how the bathroom entrance was closer. Crossing to it, she knocked on the side that didn't belong to her, kind of wondering who her new suitemate was since the one she'd been expecting clearly wasn't an option.

Severus had just finished pulling on his boots when he heard the sounds of unmistakable movement in the loo. He smiled; she was awake. Though he hadn't quite expected the knock on his bedroom door. He rose quickly, crossed to the bathroom door, and opened it, smiling again.

"Hello, Mercy," he said quietly, still smiling, even if occurred to him belatedly, if this was a different version of her, she might be more than a little confused as to how he knew her name. Still, he would cross that bridge when they got there. In the meantime, he was too happy to see her to really care.

She smiled, but it was uncertain. "You're dead," she said as she studied him, resisting the urge to tug at his clothes to see if underneath it he bore scars from a bear's claws. "Well, obviously, you aren't, because you're standing right here, but ..."

She snorted. "I knew it was special effects. I'd like the dummies they used for corpses," she muttered before she finally did then reach out, one hand playing curiously over his chest as if to ascertain his reality. "It is you, isn't it? They ... there was this video, along the lines of them sending the bears here instead of to us, and the bears ... well, they only really showed you and Lily and that little girl. Lizzy, someone said her name was. But you were all torn up and very dead."

This was definitely a very interesting turn of events. "So I guess you guys didn't ... get any bears then?"

His eyebrows rose when she said that he was dead, but ... of course. If they had shown them a video of the hotel on the old island being destroyed, yes -- it stood to reason that they would have been treated to their own video. He nodded when she asked if it was him, though his smile faded with her explanation.

"No, no bears," he answered, shaking his head, once she'd finished. "And I assure that I am very much alive." And just to prove it, he stepped forward to catch her in a hug, if she'd let him. "They showed us the hotel collapsing in another earthquake," he whispered, "and a tsunami on top of that."

Mercy shook her head. "Nothing like that. Just the bears, yesterday. But they were fairly decent about the whole thing. I was watching from a window. I wasn't ... really inclined to get too close to the action when they started roaring after they'd gotten their armor on. Didn't really seem like the best idea ever."

She returned his hug gently.

"So do they pull this kind of bullshit a lot? Staged videos, splitting us up, oh hey everyone's dead? Or was this a first time deal as far as you're aware? And is everyone all right here? You didn't have anything go on that resulted in injuries or demises?"

"No, probably not," Severus said quietly, smiling again. His overprotective streak was quite glad that she'd stayed well back out of harm's way, even if he decided not to stop harping on that again, just now.

When she pulled back from the hug, he just let his eyes dance over her face for a moment, drinking in the sight of her, since he'd thought he'd never see her again.

"They haven't done anything like this before, as far as I know," he answered, shaking his head. "And nothing's happened. Everyone is fine." Apart from horribly depressed, of course, thinking they were all dead, but that seemed unimportant now, too.

"Well, next time they decide to tell us that everyone is dead, I guess I just won't believe them." She hadn't wanted to, and she'd had suspicions the video was faked. Because really, they wouldn't make actual accidents like putting things on the wrong freakin' islands, right?

"So what's it like here? Seems bigger than the old place," she observed as she peered into his room from where she stood. "I mean, we didn't have suites over there ..."

Mercy shrugged as she glanced down at herself. She hadn't bothered to change out of her nightshirt, but perhaps she should think about getting dressed. "But otherwise it's business as usual? Someone else makes breakfast, we eat it then try to find ways to kill the rest of the day without going insane?"

"That sounds like a good idea," Severus answered with a small nod, just barely repressing the bit of gallows humor that was itching to escape him just then. But really, this did rather blow a large hole in that 'photos or it didn't happen' thing she'd said in regards to his supposed safari.

"Rainy, but pretty," he answered with a shrug, when she asked what it was like there. "I haven't been in any of the other rooms, for comparison." Just then, however, he remembered having punched the wall in her bedroom, but ... well, if she asked him about it, he'd apologize then. It probably wasn't that noticeable, after all.

Severus smiled when Mercy glanced down at herself. He hadn't really noticed what she'd been wearing, since he was just so glad to see her, and he probably should have been a little embarrassed now, but ... he wasn't. Not too terribly embarrassed, at least, and she didn't appear to be running away just now or anything.

"More or less," he said, turning to lean against the door frame and crossing his arms over his chest. "Lily's been making breakfast and supper--" Not that he'd been eating any, here lately, but that too was unimportant. "--though I imagine she will be ... otherwise occupied this morning." He gave another slight shrug, as well as he could without uncrossing his arms. "I can go and scare us up some breakfast, if you like," he added then, jerking his head in the direction of the outer door. He didn't expect her to take him up on the offer, but he thought he would extend it, nevertheless.

"Pretty is good. Beats dirty and dull," she replied as she glanced back toward her room. The heavy curtain was drawn though, so it wasn't as though she could have a peek outside just then.

Still, she thought she'd heard the patter of rain. Maybe later she'd go dance about in it. "Granted, woodsy and home would be far preferable to either, but I guess I'll take what I can get, right?"

She lifted a brow at 'otherwise occupied' but she caught on quick enough and grinned slightly. "Well, if it's anything like the last place, I'm sure there are boxes of pop-tarts hanging around in the cabinets." Or a store she could go raid.

"Guess I should shower and make myself presentable before venturing downstairs. Think we'll be having a party to celebrate our grand return?"

"Right," Severus answered with a nod. When she mentioned pop-tarts, and most certainly did not take him up on his offer of scrounging breakfast for the two of them, he took that as a 'no' on having breakfast together at all. Well, he wasn't sure why he might have thought that in the first place. Other than he rather assumed she might have missed him, as well. Not nearly as much as he had missed her, obviously, but ... well. Whatever his assumption was, it appeared to have been a faulty one.

"I, ah, suppose I'll leave you to it, then," he muttered, pulling himself off the wall. At her question regarding a party, however, he shrugged, shaking his head. "You're asking the wrong person, I'm afraid. If anyone were planning a party, I'm sure that I'd be the last person they'd invite." And with that, he turned to go, and gather up the still full trays of food Lily had brought him before, to take them down to the kitchen. Perhaps he'd look around and see if there was a library here, as well. Because for some reason, he no longer felt at home in his own room. He wouldn't want to force his company on her anymore than absolutely necessary, after all. So, the library -- if there was one -- it was.

Mercy quirked a brow curiously as she tried to chart the missteps in their brief conversation. Maybe it was just her but that didn't exactly seem like an 'I'll go find out and meet you in the kitchen'. Well, maybe it had been a ... pity offer or something and he hadn't really meant it.

His parting comment almost made her roll her eyes. "Self-pity doesn't suit you," she said frankly before she turned away herself. She did want to shower, and change, and see what this place was all about, with or without company.

She crossed into her bedroom, leaving the door to the bathroom open as she opened up the curtains over the window. Raining. Or grey, at least, and she squinted as she peered out. Opening up the window, she grinned as she inhaled the humid air of the jungle.

Turning from the window, she glanced through the bathroom to see if he was there or if he'd shut himself into his room before she crossed to her closet and drawers, digging through them until she found a pair of khaki shorts that she didn't recall owning ever (but all the same having a feeling they'd fit), a black tantop, and a short-sleeved button-up shirt. Safari girl it was. She just ... needed the silly hat.

Severus made a skeptical noise in the back of his throat, though it was somewhat drowned out by the action of piling the contents of two trays onto one. It wasn't self-pity; it was merely a fact. He simply wasn't the party sort. He wasn't even certain why Slughorn had invited him to his Christmas party that one year, other than some misguided attempt to get him to be sociable.

But really, why bother? He could count the number of people who could tolerate his presence on one hand, and ... well, he just seemed to have lost a finger, as well. How, or why, he wasn't sure, but he'd known he would put her off him some day. Better to have it over with, he supposed, before he'd grown even more attached.

Once he had everything stacked fairly neatly onto one tray, Severus lifted the thing and headed toward the outer door of their suite. Or, rather, her suite, now. And to think, he had actually looked forward to sharing a suite with her, once upon a time. He actually gave a wry smile, shaking his head, at his mental phrasing. A fairy tale, indeed.

Funny that he had just been thinking of misguided attempts at getting him to be sociable, too. As he left the suite, it was all Severus could do not to slam the door behind him. He managed to refrain, however, even if he did close it with a bit more force than was strictly warranted. Then he turned to take the dishes down to the kitchen, followed by seeking out the library. He could avoid her; he was fairly good at avoiding people.
