RP: Food would be good
Characters: Kassandra, Lucky
Time/Date: Oct. 15, morning
Location: Hotel lobby
Warnings/Rating: probably low, but maybe some bad language
Summary: Looking for food
Status: completed

The past few nights had been alright. Kassandra admitted that being abducted and put into some hotel room was pretty messed up, especially when not knowing what they're after and all. The thing that probably upset her the most was the fact that she didn't really have access to her weapons. It made her feel naked. She knew she could fend for herself if she really needed to, but still, blades and guns were really nice to have in situations like this.

She was lying, half off her bed, with her head hanging off the side, just looking at her new room upside down. She was bored, and a growl from her stomach informed her she was hungry as well. She thought for a moment and realized that she hadn't really eaten anything at all since she arrived. Something about being kidnapped and being unable to get in touch with her partner type people made her forget about food temporarily. She placed her hands on the floor and flipped backwards in a lazy, but still somehow graceful, manner, and came to a standing position. She wore a green and blue plaid skirt, black stockings that came up to her thighs and blue sweater that stopped a few inches above her belly button.

She left her room, making sure to remember what the number was so she could find it when she got tired. She headed down the stairs until she reached the first floor, where she looked around, hoping to God that she would be lucky and find a buffet for breakfast or something. Granted she wasn't getting her hopes up on that thought. At the moment, she would settle for a poptart though.

Ships didn't have earthquakes. Sometimes there was turbulence when entering atmo, but they didn't have quakes when she thought the world was going to crumble away under her. Lucky was of the mind she was not at all fond of earthquakes.

She wasn't sure how she felt about taking over breakfast, either. Sure, she could've left it for someone else, but it wasn't like breakfast was hard. Not like dinner, when she had to prepare salads and make sure there were options. Breakfast was ... breakfast. She set out the cereals and the fruit if there was some, made the bacon, sausages, eggs, and toast, and called it good. There were pastries for those who wanted sweet things, and it wasn't like anyone had to eat.

Setting aside some chicken from the night before on a little plate, she portioned it out for Oy, and for Didymus and Ambrosius. It was something they'd been doing for a few weeks, and while she didn't actually know if the fox man and his dog ate their share, she knew Oy did. Belatedly she recalled that the fox man wasn't here just now, and she rolled her eyes at herself before scraping their portion back into the container.

"Love this place every day," she muttered with a roll of her shoulders and a toss of her hair before she glanced up to see someone -- possibly someone new -- wandering by. "Mornin'," she called over cheerfully before she popped more toast into the toaster.

At the sight of the spread, Kassandra made a mental note to do something nice later since God apparently heard her prayer. A half smile came to her face before she looked at the girl.

"Morning," she said to the girl, "Did you make all of this?" This girl was either more bored than her, or really nice. Maybe she just liked cooking, who knew? All Kassandra knew was that after a week or so living off whatever they could grab from monster infested stores, this was going to be awesome.

"Did you do this for anyone in particular, or can I grab a bowl of fruit?"

"Wasn't no tooth fairies," she quipped, brows arching. Girl had to be new if she didn't know breakfast protocol. "Yeah, it was me 'cause Lily ain't on this island no more an' she was the one who was doin' it b'fore," Lucky replied.

"Gonna guess by that question you're new here." She grinned, and wondered what it said that she no longer considered herself 'new' around here.

"It's for everyone. First come first serve, an' if you ain't the sort that likes breakfast for breakfast, there's leftovers in th'fridge from dinner last night you're welcome t'heat up. I ain't gonna take no 'fense to it."

She paused. "Name's Lucky," she offered. "Been here a few weeks," she added, since the followup was usually 'how long have you been here'.

Kassandra recognized the name Lily. She had been the person who told her what all was going on, so Kassandra was coming to the conclusion that Lily was probably the unofficial go to girl.

She smiled a half-hearted smile at the girls conclusion, "Just kidnapped to the party a couple of days ago." She hadn't been exploring too much the past few days as she had been trying to figure out how someone got the jump on her to bring her here. Today she had decided that there was no point dwelling on her past mistakes, plus she was hungry, so she left the room to explore the area.

"Well since I'm one of the first," Kassandra said, with her smile becoming a bit more real, "guess I'll take a bit more. I sort of forgot that food was a good idea yesterday."

"I'm Kassandra," she replied to the introduction while she helped herself to some eggs.

Lucky smirked, but she figured the girl had been new. New enough, anyway. "Lily's been here longest. Just over four months. She was alone at first, so I heard. Alone for four days in this big ol' place 'fore they shoved more people in with her."

She shrugged. "Sometimes people know other people here from their own worlds. Mostly not though, an' if you do find anyone, they might be years older or younger'n you remember 'em. That's the case with my crew. They're all too young t'remember me. I ain't been born, or even announced where most of 'em's from."

Lucky was still a little resentful about that, but it wasn't like any of them had any say in it. "Where an' when you from?" she asked, brows lifting as she glanced over to the woman.

"She got to experience all this fun on her own for months?" Kassandra asked sarcastically, "Lucky her." She took a seat nearby so she could keep talking. Despite her tendency to not get close to people, she did like talking to them.

"That must suck," she commented, not knowing the half of what was going on in Lucky's case. "How is that even possible?"

"A hellhole called Ashcroft was the last place I traveled to," she answered, "two thousand three."

"Days," Lucky corrected. "She prob'ly woulda gone mad if she was on her own for months. Anyone would."

She snorted at Kassandra's question. "'parently, the kidnappers can take from anywhere in the 'verse, from any time. Lots of people here from Earth-that-Was. Planet's dead in my time. Been dead for a while, where I'm from, but a good lot of people here's from there."

Nodding to the year, Lucky shifted to lean against a counter so she could still watch the food, but chat. "Most people seem to be around the early 21st century. Some from further on back. A few from the 26th. My crew's from 'bout that time."

"My bad," she admitted to her accidental word swap. She took a few bites of eggs, and though she was admittedly not the best person to judge food at that moment since she was going from stale chips to no food to this, she thought they were the best eggs ever. Her eyes closed as she savored the taste for a second before having another bite.

"These are great," she told Lucky. "You did an awesome job."

She sat, eating her eggs for a few moments as the whole of what Lucky explained sunk in. None of this seemed possible, but she really didn't think there was any reason for the girl to lie, so why not. She's seen... well no she hadn't seen stranger, but still, she's seen strange.

"Well, hey," she said finally, "At least I'm not back in Ashcroft. That place sucked." She was serious when she said she'd blow it up if she had to go back.

"Thanks. I've been at it for a couple of years now. Had t'fight the cap'n tooth an' nail to get him to let me have the position. Had to prove I was old enough to do it without supervision." Her eyes rolled to show just what she thought about that.

"You're probably one'a the few that ain't in a rush to get back home then," she admitted. "Couple'a folk here ain't got nothin' to go back to, or their lives was worse'n this. Couple'a people here made connections an' now want to go back to a different place than what they came from. Be interestin' to see if there's any sort of grand release party when they're done 'xperimentin' with us."

She snorted as she turned back toward the stove. "You want juice or milk or anythin', s'in th'fridge."

Kassandra nodded and made her way to the fridge to get something to drink. "Just goes to show how guys can be idiots when they think they're protecting a girl." She smiled at the girl, "That makes it all the more fun to prove them wrong."

She wondered for a moment what other people must have been going through to cause others to not want to return. She understood the forming bonds, but could other people be having to fight creatures like she had been fighting? She supposed it was possible.

"Thanks again," she said to the girl after she sat back down with her drink.

Her brow furrowed and her lips parted before she decided to let it go. She didn't think it was about protection or anything like that. She couldn't really argue about guys being idiots though.

"Sure," she replied to Kassandra's thanks. And since people would probably be venturing down soon -- she was pretty sure she heard steps on the stairs -- Lucky started transferring the food into serving dishes to place around on the counter in the usual way. "Breakfast buffet every day," she said, more to herself than to Kassandra as she transferred a stack of plates to one end of the counter.
