RP: A Decision Characters: Lily, Sev Time/Date: early morning, October 13 Location: Algul Siento, 4th floor hallway Warnings/Rating: angst, some language, a teal deer, and a partridge in a pear tree Summary: Lily has disturbing news and there's only one person present she would go to Status: Complete
Lily woke to an empty bed, which was no surprise. The fact that it was a bigger empty bed was the first thing that threw her off. Her eyes opened slowly, and she quickly determined that this was not her room. Nor was it Jaime's room, or the infirmary. Lily sat up too quickly, groaning at the throbbing in her head. In the back of her mind, she wondered if there were going to be side effects from all the times she'd been drugged.
So what were they doing, now?
Lily became slowly aware of the pattering of rain against the window, and she crossed to it. Pushing the curtains aside, she gasped softly as she gazed out at ... green. So very much green with spots of color here and there. It was such a startling contrast from the barren grey and brown she'd been accustomed to for the past four months. She frowned suddenly. Four months. Four months, nearly exactly, since the others had arrived and she wasn't alone.
Was that what this was? Some sort of four-month anniversary thing?
She bit lightly at her lower lip before she explored the room. It was a nice room, and huge. Easily big enough for two people, and she wondered if that was ... just another jab at her. The person she'd be sharing it with was ... gone.
Lily sighed, and looked toward the nightstand. She was a little surprised to find a note; hadn't she already done that part? Still, she crossed back to the nightstand and picked up the note, reading it over slowly. It was dated, so she guessed whoever had worked out the date on the other island had been right about it. It named the island, and explained things a bit more clearly, and Lily wondered if this was ... a second wave? They were going to bring in a new rush of recruits but wanted to keep some of the old people around? Or was she here by herself again? Why not though -- they'd ripped away everyone else she'd cared about.
She booted up her computer to see if anyone had woken up before her and posted something. She just ... wanted to know she wasn't alone before she went venturing out to explore.
Just after she navigated to the network, she nearly groaned at the first entry. It was locked to her; she could tell by the tiny lily icon in the corner of the message. It was a video, and already she was imagining the sick, twisted things that she was going to see when she clicked on it. Steeling herself, Lily hit 'play', and watched.
It was an image of one of their captors, seated comfortably at a desk, with all sorts of machinery working behind and around him. He grinned to the camera, and started speaking:
Figured since you were the head bitch in charge of the last place, I'd address this to you. You see, we ran into some issues with the old place. Earthquakes and all. We evacuated the ones of you we wanted to keep observing to a safer place, but we're just going to leave the others there. There's been amazing advances in the field of earthquake prediction technology, did you know that? Anyway, we've discovered a major rupture in the faultline, and all our technology points to the fact it'll quake on the weekend. Friday night, most likely, but they might have as long as Sunday. Who knows, right? Can't predict mother nature and all that.
Anyway, everyone left behind's as good as dead. If the quake doesn't kill them, there'll be tsunamis flooding the place. It'll be fun to watch. I'll let you know who survives the longest, all right? Or who dies the slowest. Hell, if someone manages to survive the quake and the flood, I'll let you know if they resort to cannibalism because we sure as hell aren't going back in there.
Have a great day, and welcome to your new cage.
Lily stared at the screen after the video had gone black. She expected it to delete itself as some of the others had, but when it didn't, she thought she should show someone. Who, though?
Well, best to figure out who'd been moved with her, right?
Carrying her computer with her, Lily left her room. She paused to look at the door, her eyes playing over the nameplate. Her name, and Balthazar's. She laughed before she kicked the door closed with her bare foot, furious. They were sick, sick fucking bastards, and she was so tired of it. She wanted to sit down and weep until the tears wouldn't come any more, but she ... had to find out who was still here. Who had been moved here, and who was going to be left to die. To die horribly, by all indications.
Was it a lie? A trick? Were they serious? She couldn't begin to guess anymore. They said Balthazar was meant to be here, but he wasn't. He'd vanished a few days ago, and he certainly hadn't been there when she'd woken up.
Stumbling down the stairs to the lobby, she sought out the directory. The room numbers were all wrong, but most of the names seemed the same. She saw Remus, and Severus, and Jaime. She saw Balthazar, but not Mal, and she couldn't begin to wonder what that meant, exactly. Was Balthazar ... back on the old island and Mal was still gone? But that would mean they'd brought him back just to kill him? Honestly? Did they hate her that much? Were they going to show her a video of it?
She wouldn't have put it past them, nor been surprised if that was the case. Lily felt herself very close to breaking, and she didn't think she could do this anymore. She couldn't be here, she couldn't be the only one to know ... to have heard their fate. She had to tell someone. Turning away, she started toward the stairs. She'd try Remus first, and then Severus, and if neither of them was here ... she wasn't sure who she'd go to.
Remus proved not to be in residence yet, so Lily moved to the fourth floor hallway. She noticed in an abstract sort of way that it was spaced out more like the second floor had been. Bigger rooms, but fewer than had been on Remus' floor. Doubles, too? Was he rooming with someone? That was ...interesting, and for a moment it was almost enough to distract her from her own issues. Had they forced a roommate on him?
When she reached his door, she knocked on it even as she read the nameplate. Mercedes ... really? That was ... interesting. She'd met the woman of course, and she'd thought the woman had seemed interested in hearing about Sev, but she hadn't thought ... well, it was all irrelevant anyway just then. She wanted advice on what to do about Matt's video to her that morning. "Sev," she called impatiently through the door as she knocked on it again. "You have to be here!" She demanded, a pleading, desperate note in her voice.
