Magius rose from the pool, stretching and smiling as he pulled himself to a standing position next to the pool. Water cascaded down his body as he rose, and illuminated scars and muscles. he was in very good shape, unlike most wizards he knew, for he had been an outsider and a renegade most of his life, a warrior and a wizard who did not slink from hidden place to hidden place, but dove into dungeons and confronted dangers.
He stretched, and felt the delightful pull of muscles well used and content as he wound down from the swim. He had not always liked swimming, but since coming here, he had developed a true like of it. He took up a towel and scrubbed his face and body until he was roughly dry, then slipped into his robes and went to where he had set up his things, not too far away.
Settling down, he let the contentment of his swim wash over him, and he closed his eyes, magic flowing around him and easily graspable. He reached out for it, and held it in his mind’s hand as he opened his eyes and looked at his notes. He had decided to try a variation of the wind wall spell and direct it with water instead. He had known of such a spell before, but had lost it with some of his spell books. Now, after weeks of preparation, he was ready to try a new one..
He concentrated on the water, pulling in his will and speaking the words of the modified spell, and letting the magic loose. His eyes fixed on the water as he finished the incantation and looked for results. The water of the pool rose up in a vague wall form, rising some ten feet high, but almost immediately broke apart and splashed back into the pool. He sighed and frowned, making notes and observations. Not what he had planned, but still, closer than he had hoped for a first time spell. He felt there was a large gap to go, and the end result was far more elusive than he hoped it would be. He might not be able to duplicate these spells, but he would try.
He sipped some water and pondered it, thinking on what he would alter next...
